This 240Z has been in the same family since being purchased new in Japan in 1972. I bought the car from the son of the original owner. The father was in the military and while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, purchased the car from the local Datsun dealer. He was then transferred to back to California where the car has spent the rest of it's life. 1972 Datsun 240Z series III with 93,632 miles, L24 inline 6 cyl, 4 spd., SU carbs, matching numbers, dealer installed ARA A/C. At some point the A/C compressor and air pump were removed from the car but are included with the sale. Currently on non op status since 2003 with clean CA pink slip in hand. I believe it has it's original paint as I cannot find a single place that would show otherwise. The car has been sitting on the side of a garage since 2003. The tach, speedo, amp, oil pressure, water temp, fuel gauge work. Turn signals work sometimes. Hazards, brake lights, head lights, running lights, back up lights all work. Interior fan runs at all speeds. It has an aftermarket radio which turns on, but the box speakers were junk so they got tossed. I could not test the power antenna. The original radio is included with the sale. All the glass is good and the windows roll up and down as they should. The items I found that do not work are the clock, windshield wipers and choke light. The fuel tank was removed and cleaned, installed a new fuel pump and battery. After lubing the cylinders, carbs and linkage, the engine started up and ran well. No ticks, knocks or smoke. There was some hesitation up to 1200 rpm or so, but above that, it cleans up, pulls nicely and sounds excellent. I added some Sea Foam to the fuel and it seemed to help the idle and acceleration stumble quite a bit. It shifts up and down the gears very well. The car is drivable but only at low speeds because the tires are old and sat flat for a long time. The brakes were very soft so we bled them and it helped a little bit, but they are still pretty soft. During the process we found that it has at least one stuck slave cylinder. The braking system would need to be gone thru completely. The car will need to be trailered home. The car has very little rust and is solid. There are spots that I found but they are very small and very fixable. First is the battery tray itself. The rest of the inner fender does not look to be affected. The driver side dog leg at the seam. The passenger side floor board. Underneath the floor board still looks good, but it's hard to see the extent of rust without pulling the sound deadening, bu the floor feels solid. The drivers side rear trunk area shows some bubbling but without poking at it, I'm not sure. I don't think that's a known area for rust though. The doors open and close very nicely. From the pictures you can see they line up well with the B pillar and do not sag. Most if not all the weather stripping will need to be replaced. The dash has the usual cracks above the gauge pods. The glove box itself was in bad shape so it was taken out. It comes with the original jack and tool bag. A short shift kit has been installed and the original shifter is included. Also, all the parts in the last picture are included with the sale. The car was fitted with an aftermarket sunroof, but does come with the original cut out.
