Description:
1961 Chrysler 300 Series
This is a wonderful numbers matching 1961 Chrysler 300G Coupe. It has factory air, remote outside mirror, AM radio, power and swivel seats. It is a lovely driver quality car that is completelysorted and really fun to drive. I've personally driven it in a parade, around town and on the highway within the last three weeks. Everything works on the car including the air conditioning which was converted to R134. It blows cold. I had it pressure tested this month for leaks.
The car has a really interesting history and is known by the 300 Club International. It was in the same owners hands from 1976 until last year when I bought it. The owner was a long-term club member and really took great care of the car. He drove it regularly so I am very confident saying the odometer has rolled over.
He took great care of it and maintained it regularly.
In the springof 2019 he had a very minor front end accident which damaged the grill and grill surround. It also damaged the right fender, hood and radiator surround brace. When he got his insurance settlement, he decidedto sell the car. He told Jeff Carter of JC Auto he wanted to sell it. Jeff called me and I bought the car.
The car arrived at my shop a few days later and the damage was minor as the seller had told me. The onlyissue was the shop had a large backlog and the car would not be fixed for a long time. Around that time, I mentioned that I had the car to a close friendand fellow club member. He had room at his facilityso he paid me what I had paid for the car and took it. I broughtthe car to Auburn Indiana for last years ACD festival and he met me there to pick it up.
He did the work on it and was not happy with the paint so he ended up disassembling the car and doing an entire repaint in correct alaskan white.
It was a fun winter project for him but he went further into the car than he had planned with the repaint. He went through all the mechanicals and made sure the car ran and drove really well.
Around this time, I bought a 57 Pontiac Star Chief Convertible that was owned by a local estate of a collector who had passed away. My friend loved the car and asked to trade the G back to me for the Pontiac. And that is how I ended up with this car again.
I drive it regularly using it in a graduation parade for my high school senior (all part of social distancing). I've also used it to run errands in town and drove it to New Haven, CT (about 50 miles each way) at 70 miles per hour.
Overall the car is really nice but it is not a show car. The paint is great as one would expect but there are some minor waves in it from the prep work. It is probablymore or less what the factory would have delivered new but it is not concours or show quality. Is has a great finish with no orangepeel or other finishing issues.
The chrome and trim is very commensurate with the condition of the car. It is very nice but lacks the 'pop' one would expect of a show car. It looks good with the paint and the overall quality of the car. Thisincludes all of the trim pieces, bumpers and exterior brightwork.
There is absolutely no rust or rust repair anywhere on the car including the floors and trunk floor. I have loads of underside pictures for anyone interested. I can send, please feel free to ask.
Inside likethe exterior is a nice story with the seat leather and carpeting in really nice condition. The metal grates on the carpet look nice and all of the instrumentation is clear and functional. The electroluminescentlighting also worksperfectly.
All of the options work on the car includingheadlights (both brights and dims), blinkers, dash lights(as mentioned) heater and a/c both functioncorrectly (the night of the parade got quite chilly later and we were happy the heat works).
The roof liner, package tray and dash pad are all in excellent condition. The interior brightwork is also in excellent condition.
The car has its original jack and correct size and style spare tire. The trunk is solid with no rust.
The engine is powerful, strong and reliable. The transmission shifts very smoothly. The chokes work perfectly and the car starts cold with about ten seconds of total cranking. It starts instantlywhen driven within the last couple of days. There are no serious leaks, drips or other issues with the car.
This is a fun reliableand well known car from a great and long-term ownership which is ready to go to its next long-term home. The buyer will have the confidence they could buy it now and drive it anywhere without any problems whatsoever. I am sad to sell it but my shop is moving and storage space is at a premium. I only have a two car garage at my home.
