1957 Imperial 2 door hardtop. One of 4,885 produced. Base price new was $4700. Car is pearl white with turquoise roof and turquoise interior. Car runs well and I was driving it until the brakes went out a few months ago, and I simply have had no time to do brakes or any other work to the car, so I am selling it. I have too many cars... It would be driveable again with a simple brake job (pedal goes to the floor now). I probably put a few hundred miles on the car in the time I have owned it, if that.
Options are:
radio w/ power antenna
tinted glass
power windows
power seat
flyte sweep trunk lid
The 392 was rebuilt by the previous owner and has a few thousand miles on the rebuild. It is extremely smooth and powerful. It does not leak or drip, neither does the trans, which is a nice thing.... I had the carb rebuilt last year and I just replaced the spark plugs, plug, wires, boots, and seals. The battery and battery cables are new. I am including new power steering pump hoses. The trans kick down linkage needs to be adjusted as it wasn't kicking down exactly when it should, I adjusted it some and it is better but it still isn't right.I have the rest of the front headlight surround chrome. 2 pieces are at the chrome shop and am waiting to get them back. I realized I put on a hood lip bar off a '59 on it, so I put on the correct one, can see it in last pic. I upgraded some of the chrome that was originally on the car with better. The stainless side trim is all nice, not a dent or a ding. The "IMPERIAL" fender scripts are NOS or near NOS. The bumpers are kinda dull and should be replated but have no dents or rust. The outside roof trim is pitted. Tri City plating has replated bumpers in stock for a reasonable price. I installed really nice interior and exterior door handles. Exterior door handles are rare on these cars, they are fragile and easily broken.
The entire front clip was repainted this year. The car is a 1990s Cadillac pearl white. On the trunk lid and upper quarters, the clear coat is peeling off (previous owner used a power washer on the car there he said). I would plan on repainting this area and then just respraying the sides of the quarters and the doors, might as well....There are some bubbles on the lower quarters but I see no rust out, passenger inner quarter has a few tiny holes. Would fix this when respraying quarters. There are also a bunch of small bubbles in the rocker area that is beneath the quarter windows. On the driver's side, I took off the inside trim panel and stuck my hand in there in the cavity, I couldn't find any holes. Did not check the passenger side. The passenger side lower quarter bottom (outer). was professionally patched with a piece welded in, you can see where it was done on the insideThe floor on the car is nice, there were two small patches done in the front, the size of a couple fingers. I have pics showing the floors with the carpet pulled up. The trunk floor has several holes and spots that need to be fixed. It is "overkill" but I have a whole rust free trunk floor sitting at a friend's place in California. The buyer can have this, but you are responsible for getting it transported.
The glass is all good, no cracks or chips, the windshield has some wiper marks and could stand to be polished
The tires are brand new, maybe 20 miles on them and the rims were sandblasted and powder coated. I have the original hubcaps also
The lights work, so do the wipers, turns signals, horns and even the clock (!). The speedometer cable needs to be replaced or lubricated as the speedometer needle bounces all over. Radio doesn't work, the antenna is not installed but I will include it. The car has nice push buttons.
I rebuilt the front power window motors, the windows work but the tracks need to be lubricated as the windows move slowly still. Rear windows don't work.
The car should have it's interior redone. The seat covers are just resting over the original material. When I got the car they were attached with hog rings. It looks presentable but the foam is hard. I was going to redo the interior but never had the time. I do have pics of the seats with the covers off. The power seat works. The DR front door panel was disassembled by an interior shop but they didn't ever get around to recovering it. So it is in pieces as you can see but the parts are there. It needs new cardboard on the back.
The dash pad is cracked and falling apart. I have another dash shell I would include that is the same color, that could be sent out to be restored (see pics) This saves you from being without a dash while you wait for one to be recovered. Autoline in Sweeden does this at much cheaper price than Just Dashes
If the reserve is met, I will include a steering wheel I am restoring, painted to match the interior colors of the car. The one currently on the car is pretty rough. I think that alone is worth some $$ as it is expensive to have these wheels fixed. I also have a nicer horn pad.
I have some NOS fabric I will include.
The car is missing the driver's side door sill plate, I think I have one with some of my other parts but I am not positive. It also needs a piece of trim for the driver front door panel and the trunk lid handle. Again, if I can find these parts I will include them. The trunk lid handles were reproduced. I am including the door weatherstripping seals, also a white rear speaker cover and package tray that are nice and could be redyed to match.
I do like this car but I never seem to have the time to work on it, it always ends up last on my list, so that is why I am selling it. These have to be one of the most beautiful and perfectly designed of all late 1950s cars.
I am happy to work with international buyers. I have a reasonable reserve, I want to sell it. The car is titled in my name and currently registered and insured. I would like it moved soon. It WILL need to be winched on a truck or trailer, you cannot drive it anywhere, no brakes at all. SOLD AS-IS, no warranties expressed or implied. I have provided tons of photos.
IF YOU ARE SERIOUSLY INTERESTED IN THE CAR READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION! I can be reached at 847-707-8312, text me or a leave a message.
NO PAYPAL for payment or deposit. Any other payment method is fine, bank wire or cashier's check is best. I know several good vehicle shippers
I would do a partial trade on certain 72-78 full size 4dr cars or wagons, otherwise no trades. If you have cars like this send me a message and I will send a list of what I am after. I also have a nice '57 Imperial Lebaron (complete, good paint good interior), and a solid but disassembled project '60 coupe I am selling
