1950 Chrysler Town & Country Newport One-Year-Only Design, 1 of 698 Built 324ci Inline-8, 3spd Manual Transmission Stunning Condition VIN: 7411784 Paint: Tobacco Brown (72) Trim: Corduroy & Leather (77) Engine #: C49-5969 CONSIGNMENT SALE Evolve Motors & Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1950 Chrysler Town & Country Newport! We're representing this lovely '50 Town & Country Newport on behalf of a local client, who has owned this car for nearly thirty years. There sure aren't many out there quite like this one! After all, Chrysler only produced 698 in total. This particular car is very nicely presented; the white ash wood trim, Tobacco Brown paint, and ivory hardtop contrast beautifully. These cars were beloved from the moment they left the assembly line, quickly becoming an icon of 50s popular culture. With all of the trim and high-quality materials used in the building of these cars, they didn't come cheap. The base price in 1950 was over $4,000, about $500 more expensive than the Cadillac Coupe deVille, which many people saw as the gold standard of luxury motoring at the time. These cars weren't just basic sedans dolled up with wooden trim; the Town & Country Newport was actually quite a sophisticated package. This car was one of the earliest adopters of four-wheel disc brakes, and was powered by a stout 324ci Inline-8 engine. Exterior: Tobacco Brown (#72) really is the perfect color for these cars. The car wears a respray of the original color and the finish is excellent, truly show-quality. There is absolutely no paint run or anything of the sort, paint work was clearly done to a very high standard. There is no bondo on the car, as confirmed with an elcometer. Elcometer readings show between 3.5 and 8.0 on every panel, consistent with one respray. The body is nice and straight, there are no dents or dings to be found on the car. Really the only blemishes to knock are some very small, very light scratches on the tops of the front fenders, presumably from leaning over to peer into the engine bay, as well as a rusty tailpipe. Overall the car presents exceedingly well. Chrome is in great shape all around with a nice bright shine; no dings, next-to-no oxidation. Chrome rock guards at the rear of the rockers are in great shape, with no corrosion or damage hidden behind them (this is a common problem area). All glass and light lenses are clear and crack-free. Chrome hubcaps are in nice shape, with just one light ding on the driver front wheel. BFG Silvertown Whitewall tires in in nice shape as well, with no dry rot and nearly full tread remaining. Interior: Original, unrestored interior presents extremely well. Body-colored dash looks fantastic, as does the leather surrounding it. Interior chrome is in excellent shape and shines bright; the chrome accents really pop against the beige/brown interior. Both front and rear corduroy bench seats are free of any tears or scuffs. Rears look to have almost never been used. Door panels are in great shape, with no damage or kicked-open markings, though there is a slight bit of discoloring by the driver's armrest. Original steering wheel is in great shape, just a couple partial hairline cracks. Windows track nicely, doors open and close without a fuss. The gauge cluster is truly beautiful in this car, and remains in excellent shape. Gauges are all functional, and the fan works great. Radio is not currently functional. This car does not have air conditioning. Odometer reads 05648, which is assumed to have rolled over. Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Driver's floor carpeting is pretty torn up by the sill, whereas the passenger side carpet is in nice shape. Car will come with brown rubber floormats as well. Under the Hood / Underbody: The original 324ci inline-8 and 3-speed column-shift manual are in very good mechanical order. Engine number is C49-5969. This car has been routinely exercised throughout the summer months and maintained as seen fit. The car fires right up, accelerates smoothly and without hesitation, idles cool and steady, tracks straight down the road, and brakes straight and effectively. The car shifts well, and comfortably eats up speedbumps and potholes with ease. The car is quiet and does not smoke excessively or have any noises or tendencies of concern. Underneath, the car looks quite good. There is only very minor surface rust, nothing through. The rear end is a bit damp, indicating a very, very slow leak. The car has been sitting stationary in the showroom for about a week now, and there are no drops of fluid underneath the car.
