1939 Chrysler Royal Royal
1939 CHRYSLER ROYAL Feels and looks like original…it’s a combination of being a survivor car and an older restoration. The same color repaint seems more than twenty years. You can see on the roof where a car cover has rubbed away the color over the years. That’s how old the paint job is. Great, atte patina. Obviously kept indoors and cared for. I bought six months ago from collector. This car appealed to me, ecause it’s vintage. It looks old, t feels old. Almost original. The seats are original mohair. Thin, o tears. The dash has been repainted. Not re-chromed. I like a car that feels its age and feels original. I left the leather/naugahyde (?) on the dash. Didn’t re-chrome the deco grille. I have the one piece that isn’t there. There’s all new rubber around all the windows. All the glass is original and the deterioration of the glass, he fading, he yellowing lends an invaluable sense of age. All windows and door fit and work perfectly. All the mohair door panels were unusable. I made the decision to replace them with custom made teak panels, ike on Woodies. Those are installed. I used original door handles on the inside (except still looking one). For window cranks I used vintage Mopar art deco handles. The original handles to the Royal were boring compared to these. I have the correct reproduction rubber down on the floors. The vintage fog light is mounted. Vintage deco switch under dash. Not wired. No radio – there never was one. No turn signals either. Matching period rear view mirrors. Original keys. A couple sets. Vintage jack included. Spare included. New windshield rubber blades. Recovered original arm rests. Needs door silk cords…and a new headliner. All the metal bows are there. I have the original for pattern if you want it. I still have original door panels. New custom made leather steering wheel cover (over original but cracked steering wheel) Loud horn. Nothing been re-chromed. Bumper guards have small splotches of peeling chrome. This is not a show car. It’s an old car. It’s not about perfection. It’s about memory. And comfort. Starts every time. Drives great. Big and heavy. Brakes are there. It runs, t drives, ts stops. I would adjust (I think they need to be bled) but that’s a guess. Assorted scratches and dings…nothing terrible at all. I’ve never waxed the car. Only washed it once. Didn’t clean before shooting the photos. The finish is one the big pluses of this car. Underneath. Looks fine. No rust at all. Great car cover included.
