1963 Chrysler Imperial Crown 2 Dr Hardtop
My late husband purchased this car in 2004 in southern California. We had so many cars, it seldom was driven - Since 2004 I would estimate that the car has been driven a little over 100 miles. I can only remember it going to 3 car shows. It has been covered and stored on top of a car lift since 2013 when we put the new floor in the shop. I do remember riding in it - it felt like you were gliding. Production numbers on this model was 1067 - I wonder how many are left...
So on September 5th, I successfully started the truck that was stored below the Chrysler and moved it. I lowered the Chrysler down and charged the battery. I tried to start it - gave it a shot of starting fluid and it started right up. I played with the push buttons and the parking lever trying to figure it out - needless to say I did something wrong and the Drive button is now not working properly - I later read that attempting to engage the transmission without raising the park lever can damage or brake the button. Now it just flops in and it does not engaged.**UPDATE - the button flops around, but if you play with it, you can get it to line up and engage - but you have to play with it... either it slipped out of the plastic arm, or the plastic arm is broken? I went ahead and purchased a used replacement pushbutton assembly on eBay for $175 - So the buyer may be able to repair the existing or replace. I drove the car out of the garage in 2nd gear so I could shuffle cars and reversed it back in the garage into a front spot. I am not someone who can fix it so the buyer can figure it out... I have gone out and started it every couple of days since - starts up in 3 to 4 tries. The Clock works. The front seat looks like new and the back seat shows wear - which makes me suspect the front seat was redone by the previous owner? There is also a floor console glove box (that was added?) it is upholstered and has the Chrysler script on it and houses a stereo. The original radio is still in the dash. The Antenna controller and Dash Radio appear to have been bypassed and hooked up to the Stereo in the floor console because I turned on the stereo and the antenna came up / off down... I reluctantly tried the Heater/Air buttons - the fan came on and they all engaged. *There is a one inch small crack on top of dash.photo From the drivers seat I tried the electric windows - the Drivers window did not work and I hear no motor. (I know it used to work - photo at car shows it is down) The wing windows did not work and I could hear the window motors. Passenger wing has a slight movement but I did not try to assist any of the windows by hand. The window rubber is hard and missing in some places on the sides and around wing windows which may be the reason the wings don't open. The front and rear glass rubber seams fine. Glass is all good and I see no delaminating. The previous owner had all the windows except the windshield professionally tinted. The rubber at the back of the hood is hard and deteriorating needs to be replaced. *There is a small whole on driver interior door panel and small gash on drivers door armrest. photo *The steering wheel is cracked. photo Engine: 413 V8 - I don't know what to say about the engine - Starts easy, quiet, and runs good. Please refer to the photos of the engine. There is some green on the radiator - I don't know if it was caused by a leak or if it is a patch? I checked all the fluids and had to add power steering fluid and brake fluid. Radiator water and oil level was good and after letting it run for a while, I checked the transmission fluid and it's level was also good. Tires have very little wear (look new) but are old in years... The gas gauge is either not working or there is not enough gas in it to register - I poured 3 gallons in and it did not move from E. Other gauges are working. *There is a something in the trunk that has a core like a radiator has - I don't know where it goes or if it is a spare/replaced part or even if it belongs to the car?? photo *Not sure if I am reading the milage correctly, I think it reads 64K miles - see photo.
Overall this car is beautiful - I have looked it over carefully and cannot find any dents not even a dimple. The paint shines like glass. There are a few tiny chips here and there that look to be touched up and a few light hairline scratches - nothing major. I am sure that the scratches can be buffed out. The stainless is beautiful and in great shape - I ran my hand along the trim and only found 2 tiny dimples. The chrome has some very slight light pitting that I can feel - again nothing major. I ran out of photo slots - If there is something you would like to see a photo of "ask seller a question" pretty sure I can include a photo back.
California Car Cover, and service manuals are included.
I have described the car to the best of my ability - I have tried to point out any flaws or issues that I could find or identify. It is a beautiful car. - Priced to sell on a 5 day auction.
