Do a quick Google image search for "hot rod" or "street rod" and you'll see two predominant patterns: a whole lot of flames and a whole lot of Fords. While it's hard not to love a good set of flames brand loyalty can definitely stand between some enthusiasts and a Ford. Heck even if you're a blue oval diehard it's still nice to see something different every now and then. That's why this 1937 Chevrolet Business Coupe is such a refreshing change of pace. A lot of time money and effort was invested into making this classic the baddest bowtie on the block and the quality of that plight shows throughout. From its custom chassis and ZZ4 350 to its Mercedes paint and plush leather interior the car features the best of everything without drifting in to the dreaded 'too nice to drive' territory. If you're ready to experience a different kind of rod which can be obtained for a fraction of the hobby's typical build cost take a minute to learn more about this killer Chevy.

BODYWORK/TRIM

This clean coupe's solid steel fuselage began life as a run-of-the-mill commuter that would stay out of trouble for close to 70 years. In 2003 a Carolina rod builder by the name of Benny Proctor initiated a celebrity-style restoration that included silky Mercedes-Benz paint. And today after spending its entire post-restoration existence in the hands of one meticulous owner the car rolls as a fully sorted classic that's nice enough to set up shop on the front row of the cruise in. Notable ancillary items include a stainless grille Hagen headlights tinted glass shaved doors a shaved electric trunk and LED tail lamps. And details like satin markers small mirrors chrome bumpers and a billet Center High Mount Stop Lamp create a condensed and classy appearance.

ENGINE

Take a look under this Chevy's winged hood and you'll find a hot GM Performance Parts ZZ4 350 that utilizes a forged crank powdered rods a hydraulic cam and hypereutectic pistons to turn stout 10 to 1 compression into 355 horsepower and 405 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of the smooth-spinning mill a coated Edelbrock carburetor is sequenced behind an Edelbrock filter braided hoses and a mechanical Holley pump. That fuel source rides between a polished air cleaner L98 Corvette heads and a dual-plane aluminum intake. At the back of that intake an HEI distributor sequences fire between Ron Francis wiring and loomed Taylor cables. At the front of those cables billet pulleys spin a chrome alternator and polished AC compressor above a high volume water pump. Cooling comes courtesy of a big Walker radiator that's finished with a Cooling Components puller fan. Exhaust makes haste through Sanderson block hugger headers. And aesthetically the car's smooth engine bay is super clean all the way from its big block firewall and polished valve covers to its black engine skin and trick dipsticks.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Toss this coupe on a lift and you'll find solid floorpans that frame modern aftermarket components with a subdued coat of Satin Black paint. Behind the smooth-revving small block a Corvette-sourced 700R4 4-speed twists power to an 8-inch Ford axle and friendly 3.55 gears. Beneath that drivetrain a completely rebuilt suspension employs traditional leaf springs behind a Mustang II front clip that's fitted with Flaming River rack-and-pinion steering and Pole Position Racing control arms. Master Power Brakes power disc and drums provide quick drama-free stops. Charred dinosaurs float from the aforementioned headers in to a 2.5-inch exhaust system which positions rowdy Flowmaster mufflers in front of polished Megs tips. Torque transitions to the pavement through American Racing Torq Thrust Ds which spin 205/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 235/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. And everything from the car's undercoated fenders to its Rock Valley stainless fuel tank is solid fully sorted and ready to cruise.

INTERIOR

Like most ground-up builds this Chevy features a completely custom interior. That insulated and bowtie-themed cockpit is trimmed in custom sills color-keyed floor mats billet foot pedals billet door handles a Lokar shifter and high quality VDO gauges. Remote Dakota Digital door latches provide access. A Glide split-bench seat feels like the perfect place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Power windows and Hot Rod climate control afford the ability to cruise in any season. A premium Custom Autosound audio system determines the soundtrack. In front of the driver a polished Lecarra steering wheel spins around a tilting Flaming River column. And behind the passengers a carpeted and upholstered trunk features a large amount of storage space.
