1946 Chevrolet Panel truck not Sedan Delivery

This is a "barn find" 1946 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery that the "Hawthorne Bakery" company used as advertising and deliveries is offered at $1.00 start with no reserve. I bought this on Ebay with the idea of doing a restomod, leaving 90% of the body damage and doing a satin clear coat making it a one of a kind, eye catching ride for sure. But, life changes and I have decided to offer it here for another visionary to have fun getting this piece of automotive history back on the road! Remember WWII had just ended 7 months earlier and 1946 was the first year manufacturing was not focused on wartime production! In my mind, WWII vets probably were involved in building this Sedan Delivery! And frankly, I think the two seats, that both tilt forward, look like the same design of a WWII airplane seats! Very utilitarian no lumbar support or heat..... For clarity, do not bid on this if you are looking for factory fresh sheet metal, please assume all sheet metal has some level of defect. Do not bid on this if you are looking for all the glass to be whole, without blemish. Drivers window is stuck but appears whole the crank and door handle are both present. Drivers windshield is appears whole but de-laminating, single windshield wiper above it is AWOL. Passenger windshield is broken. Passenger window AWOL as is the crank, the handle is there. Both back windows are broken and the small glass lenses above the headlights have chips on the edges. All four doors open and close tight and any gasket material that might have been present is gone.I dont know nor will I look for the "date code" on the tires.....all of which aired up to move from storage and then proceeded to go flat. Please do not bid on this Sedan Delivery thinking you will be able to use the tires, you will not. There is no spare nor and associated tools to change a flat tire. The sheet metal panel that is missing in image 9885 that creates the floor board in the front is actually in the cargo area in the back. The cover for the storage area under the passenger seat seen in image 9880 is AWOL.The brakes do not work, no receipts available for when they were last serviced.Fuel tank, as is seen in photo 9880 there is a motorcycle gas tank on the floor, that was NOT an factory option for this 1946 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Apparently it was a option for someone as it did provide fuel to the engine when delivered. Please assume the original fuel tank needs replaced.Engine, when delivered, the driver did start and back it off the trailer and told me "I sure hope you were not planning to drive this far, bad brakes and motorcycle gas tank in here"! I did drive it about 2 blocks, slowly and pumped the brakes madly when stopping... It sat inside a storage unit for 10 years then this year it was put on a tow truck and moved to current location. Please consider the engine dead, I have no receipts on ANY engine repair.Transmission, I apologize, it might be a 3 speed, it might be 4, but I'm guessing it's a 3 speed. Please assume the transmission needs work. I have no receipts on any transmission work. What I found to be attractive is the fact this is a Nevada truck and has little body rust and the undercarriage shows it's life in a desert environment and a whole lot of patina! This environment was also beneficial to the authentic and period original "Hawthorne Bakery" graphics to include "Phone 23"!! All of it hand painted. And again, that era, I cant help but think about the one of the guys that painted "Nose art" on the planes of WWII maybe painted this too. I have zero proof being the case, also no way of knowing it wasn't painted by a WWII veteran! Regardless, it's there and personally that is why I bought it! I was told the gray seen on the drivers side could be removed, leaving the Hawthorne Bakery, I do not know this to be true. I was also told some of that later paint might wash off....Regardless, that will be left the next owner. I did provide some close-up photos of these areas and again, was told they could be treated and clear coated to provide a durable finish. Again, all of this aging, dents, wrinkles and patina is impossible to duplicate, throw in the graphics and it is sincerely a one of a kind vehicle! With all of that in mind, this truck was not washed, polished and detailed for this listing, it is as it is. Please look at all the photos as they are part of the description. I have more photos and can take specific photos as needed. Please ask any questions before bidding. There is no warranty expressed nor implied, there are no returns on this. On Apr-15-25 at 08:08:39 PDT, seller added the following information:
Hello, the only seats I have are the ones seen that came with vehicle. I thought they were original. If you know they are not, please let me know. They certainly look like they belong there!
On Apr-15-25 at 11:19:30 PDT, seller added the following information:I searched and now believe the seats are not original, everything I'm seeing the seats have a hidden frame and fuller seats/backs. I've asked for a photograph from one party selling a shop manual, but suspect it'll just confirm what I now suspect to be non-original seats. I do apologize for any trouble this has caused any bidders. Having said that, for my vision, changing them out wouldn't even crossed my mind! I really like the arm rests/grab bars on the passenger seat!
On Apr-15-25 at 13:24:09 PDT, seller added the following information:Folks I no longer have keys for it, another loss from a domestic matter. In addition, I found a small square post with a drilled and tapped hole in the end on each door top rear corner. I have no idea what it is for but there is nothing attached to either one. Also, I found that the partially seated screws in the drivers door do not match the screws in the passenger door. I apologize for these over-sites. Please if you have any doubts about this vehicle, do not bid. If you have any questions, please ask and I'll get you an answer, I want to represent/describe this as best I can. Thanks to one and all for the questions, comments and bids. The one thing I respectfully ask from the winning bidder, is to see this Sedan Delivery, finished and going down the road! And maybe first right of refusal.....
On Apr-17-25 at 06:38:59 PDT, seller added the following information:Had a question about the title and I should have included this...I do have the Nevada title in hand, there is no lien on it, no bank involved. The title matches VIN on vehicle, odometer is "EXEMPT", "VEHICLE COLOR" is blank, the other section match vehicle. It is signed by the gentleman I bought it from on the "Signature of Seller(s)/Agent/Dealership" line and his name is printed where indicated. The "Signature of Buyer" area remains blank. All spaces of the form on the back remain blank. Again, thank you one and all for the interest in this vehicle, I'm all about full disclosure and as I'm not an expert here, I appreciate your patience. I sure hope by close of auction the winning bidder knows what they are buying!
I learned this is actually a 1946 Chevrolet PANEL truck not a “Sedan Delivery”. I apologize for the trouble.
