He was a long time resident of Carmel Valley and a Chef at Will's Fargo Restaurant. He loved Carmel very much and wanted to stay as long as he could. He passed away on December 8, 2006 in San Diego, where he had been moved to be closer to his daughter. The family thanks all the people who cared for him and all the friends who visited him before and after his move to assisted living.Published by Monterey Herald on Jan. 20, 2007.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2019 FROM THE OWNER WHO HAD FOUND IT AT A SPECIALTY CORVETTE STORE IN EARLY 2011 AFTER THEY HAD PURCHASED IT FROM MR WASHINGTONS DAUGHTER.I HAVE ALSO KEPT IT IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED SHOP ALONG WITH MY SMALL COLLECTION AS HE HAD, AND DRIVEN IT TO LOCAL CORVETTE SHOWS AND OTHER MEETS. MY WIFE AND I LIKE TO DRIVE IT ON SUNDAY AFTERNOONS WHEN WEATHER PERMITS FOR SHORT OUTINGS OUT IN THE COUNTRY WHERE WE LIVE.
THE ENGINE CODE IS HH AND THAT DENOTES IT IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AIR REACTOR PUMP (SMOG PUMP) THAT I HAVE REMOVED BUT HAVE IT BOXED UP. IT IS COMPLETE INCLUDING BRACKETS, BOLTS, MANIFOLDS, HOSES, AND THE BELT AND IN SAFE KEEPING FOR THE NEXT OWNER.
THIS LITTLE CAR STARTS, RUNS, AND DRIVES LIKE BRAND NEW. EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD. IT NEVER OVERHEATS AND HAS THE BEST OIL PRESSURE I HAVE SEEN ON ANY OLDER CAR. THE GAUGE HAS 60 LBS MAXIMUM AND WHEN STARTED COLD THE NEEDLE SETS RIGHT ON 60. AS IT WARMS UP IT WILL IDLE ON ABOUT 40 UNTIL YOU TOUCH THE GAS AND ONCE AGAIN IT JUMPS TO 60 WHERE IT REMAINS UNTIL THE ENGINE IDLES AGAIN.
IT IS EQUIPPED WITH A MAIN ELECTRICAL DISCONNECT SWITCH SO THE BATTERY WILL NOT DRAIN WHEN IT SETS MOST OF THE WINTER. THE CLOCK DOES WORK AND THE SMALL DRAW WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY IF IT SETS FOR A LONG PERIOD LIKE MOST OTHER OLDER CORVETTES.
OF COURSE, ALL NUMBERS MATCH, INCLUDING THE CARBURETOR, DISTRIBUTOR, RADIATOR, THE OVERFLOW TANK, ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, ETC.THE ENTIRE INTERIOR IS ALL ORIGINAL EXCEPT FOR THE FRONT CARPET. IT WAS REPLACED BY THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED CORVETTE STORE. I HAD A COMPLETE NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM INSTALLED AND USED GENUINE GM CORVETTE REPLACEMENT MUFFLERS AND CHROME TIPS. (SEE PICS)
ALL ORIGINAL PAINT EXCEPT UNDER THE FRONT VALANCE. IT LOOKS AS IF THE LOWER VALANCE CAME INTO CONTACT WITH A PARKING BLOCK OR TALL CURB SOMETIME IN ITS PAST. NOT A LARGE REPAIR, JUST MORE OF A BAD SCRAPETHE REPAIR IS EXCELLENT AND MOST PEOPLE WOULD NEVER NOTICE (SEE PICS)
THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS ALL ORIGINAL WITH VIRGIN FLOORS. THE FRAME AND OTHER PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN SPRAY PAINTED BLACK TO HIDE ANYTHING. WHAT YOU WILL SEE IS A PRISTINE UNDERSIDE WITH NO RUST OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND. THE ENGINE, TRANS, AND REAR END HAVE NOT BEEN PAINTED AND ALL ARE IN ORIGINAL CONDITION AS WELL OF COURSE SOME PARTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED SUCH AS SPARK PLUGS, POINTS AND CONDENSER, PLUG WIRES, ETC. ALSO THE REAR STRUT RODS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH NEW ADJUSTABLE TYPE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER IPURCHASED THE CAR I HAD A FULL 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT PERFORMED AND THEN I PERFORMEDA COMPLETE 4 WHEEL BRAKE JOB. I REBUILT ALL 4 CALIPERS, REPLACED RUBBER HOSES, REBUILT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM INCLUDING CABLES AND FLUSHED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND ALL LINES
THREE OF THE FOUR HEADLIGHTS ARE THE ORIGINAL "T-3" AND THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE IS STILL BRAND NEW. IT IS A BFG SILVERTOWN, HAS NEVER BEEN ON THE GROUND, AND IS IN ITS CARRIER. THE ORIGINAL JACK AND LUG WRENCH ARE IN THEIR PLACE AS WELL. (SEE PICS)
EVERYTHING WORKS AS EXPECTED. ALL GAUGES, ALL LIGHTS AND SIGNALING DEVICES, THE HEATER AND DEFROST, AM-FM RADIO, CLOCK, WIPERS, ETC. THE WINDOWS ROLL EASILY, THE DOOR LOCKS WORK AS THEY SHOULD AND THE ORIGINAL KEY IS STILL USED FOR ALL FUNCTIONS.
THE WINDSHIELD IS ORIGINAL BUT DOES HAVE A WIPER MARK ON IT. I MADE SURE IT SHOWS IN THE PICTURES. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CHANCE THAT MOST WOULD POLISH OUT BUT I HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THE SITUATION AS IT NEVER BOTHERED ME.
SOME OF THE WEATHERSTRIPS ARE SHOWING THEIR AGE. I HAVE A COMPLETE BODY / COVERTIBLE TOP WEATHER- STRIP SET THAT IS INCLUDED WITH SALE.
THE RARE MID YEAR CORVETTES THAT HAVE RARE EQUIPMENT AND/OR A GREAT HISTORY SUCH AS THIS ONE ARE GAINING IN VALUE ALMOST QUARTERLY AND CONTINUE TO BE A GREAT INVESTMENT. THIS IS NOT A FORCED SALE BUT RATHER MY TIME IN LIFE TO DOWNSIZE AND PASS MY GREAT CARS ALONG TO THE NEXT GENERATION.
