Description:

1968 Chevrolet El Camino

Drivetrain: Chevrolet Performance 265hp 350 19420527 crate motor, SM330 heavy duty 3 speed manual transmission from a running 1976 C-10 pickup with new rear seal and fresh fluid. Hurst floor shifter kit with custom sheetmetal trans tunnel mount. New clutch and flywheel. Original driveshaft. Rebuilt 8.2" GM 10 bolt with seals, bearings, Jegs posi. Original 3.23 ring and pinion. Headers with full 2" dual exhaust.
New Sheetmetal: Front bumper valance, core support, lower fender replacement patches, all floor panels, inner smugglers bed sides, inner and outer rear wheelhouses both sides, right quarter panel, right lower trunk dropdown panel, tailgate, tailgate cover.
New parts: Practically everything under the hood except for the steering gear box. Nearly everything in the interior is new except for the steering column and the plastic kick panels. The actual dash plastic is original. I sandblasted it and painted it with plastic paint and it came out pretty nice. New windshield, weatherstripping, rear view mirror, gauges, headliner, carpet, dash pad, seats, etc. JVC head unit with bluetooth and 4 new speakers. New American Autowire wiring harness from tip to tail. There is no original wiring in the car whatsoever.
New steering components, ball joints, spindles, shocks, bushings, pedals and linkage. Disc brake upgrade kit with new master cylinder and vacuum booster. New gas tank and new aluminum fuel line and new brake lines. Fresh 15x8 rims and traditional A-body tire fitment of 235/60 front and 255/60 rear. Tires have 3600 miles on them as does the whole car.
The car was fully sandblasted and separated from the frame. POR15 frame with Eastwood topcoat. Fully undercoated and seam sealed underside. Paint and body are DIY Spraymax 2K Hot Rod Satin Black. The paint should be considered rat rod quality. There are areas of filler that are visible and various imperfections and dings upon close inspection and some typical striping on the hood and roof. The bed was clearly used well in its previous life. Please review the pictures carefully. If you have a desire for laser straight panels and high end paint plan on sending the car to the body shop for a full skim coat and a respray.
To-do list: THE CAR HAS NO HVAC. I was setting this up for a Vintage Air kit but they were out of stock when I was putting the car together. The driver's side door handle is tired so you need to roll the window down when you get out and use both the inside handle and the outside handle together. I have a new door latch assembly that goes with the car. The car needs door placards. They were also out of stock when I was assembling the car. The power steering gear box is wet at the bottom. I check the fluid but it is never low.
The car tends to idle at 1200 and sometimes it runs-on for a second when you shut it off. It pulls great vacuum, has accurate timing, really good throttle response, surprising acceleration and good return to idle so I wasn't too concerned about the idle but it is worth mentioning. I think a little idle circuit tuning will do the trick but I just didn't get around to it. Electric choke makes it easy to start from a cold start and after it has been running.
That's about everything. I have a massive pile of receipts. Everywhere I go PEOPLE LOVE THIS CAR and it is enjoyable to drive. It is a great shop truck, cruiser, daily driver. Good luck and thanks very much!
