1986 Chevrolet CUCV M1028

1986 Chevrolet CUCV M1028.

The 1028 is the most sought after CUCV that was built, and this one is in good shape. This is a great running and driving truck. Starts right up even in cold weather. When I bought it, I was told it began its service life in Ft. Hood, Texas, then around 1999 it was brought to Gowan Field in Boise, Idaho. I purchased it in June of 2022 from Federal Surplus in Idaho. There are absolutely no rust issues. The body is super solid, and there is only some surface rust on the undercarriage and paint chips. This truck had a full Military service and inspection in August of 2013 and then only had 100 miles put on it until I bought it. My plan was to lift it 4 inches and run 37’s. I went through the entire truck front to back and it all works. I have been driving it around town and taken a couple of longer trips, but have only put around 500 miles on it. All the lights, including blackout lights, still work. I have found a different project vehicle that I have been wanting to build for many years (FJ62Landcruiser), so my time and money are heading in that direction.

Keep in mind that this CUCV is almost 40 years old and has been in service most of its life. It is not a show truck, there are some nicks, dings, and dents. It is in much better shape than 95% of the ones out there and would not take much work to be really nice. It is all original and unmolested, still running the 24/12V system.

Some of the parts I put on in the last 500 miles:

New glow plugs

New tie rod (both ends and adjuster, MOOG)

New steering stabilizer

New air filter, fuel filter, oil filter

New rear driveline and u-joints

Newer BFG all-terrain tires 265/75/16

New AGM batteries (both of them)

New MileMarker stainless steel hubs

Engine: 6.2 diesel, new fuel filter, new air filter, new oil and filter, new AC Delco 60g glow plugs (these are the best)

Trans/Transfer Case: Turbo 400, NP208

Front axle: Dana 60, 4.56 gears, trac-lok limited slip

Rear axle: GM 14 bolt, 4.56 gears, Detroit locker

I have some miscellaneous parts and filters that will go with the truck.
