BODY/SHEET METAL: It is important to note that Montana, while a state with four seasons, has a very dry climate with low relative humidity. Additionally, Montana does not use salt on its winter roadways. This translates to vehicles with sound undercarriages and very solid sheet metal. This is a very solid truck with only a couple areas of concern. The photos will show rust holes in the floor pan on both the driver and passenger sides in the area where wet feet sit. As for the areas under the seat and fuel tank, these are very solid with no rust through – a wire wheel will quickly reveal very solid sheet metal. The fuel tank is not included as we never had it (the truck runs on a small auxiliary fuel tank that is not included in the sale). The cab corners, while not terrible, would benefit from replacement. The roof shows surface rust where the sun has taken its toll on the paint. The remaining sheet metal – doors, door bottoms, rocker panels, fenders, inner fender wells, hood, box – is extremely solid with only minor dents/dings. The box wood has been removed and solid infrastructure underneath can be seen.
FRAME/CHASSIS: This truck sits on its original 3100 ½ Ton chassis. The chassis and its components are complete but would benefit from updating/restoration. We have rebuilt each wheel cylinder in an attempt to get regular brakes on the truck, but a consistently solid brake pedal could not be established. This is likely due to the need for a master cylinder rebuild/replacement. As referenced above, no salt is used on winter roadways in Montana. As a result, the frame and its components are very solid showing only surface rust.
ENGINE/TRANSMISSION/DRIVETRAIN: This truck runs and drives. It is a smooth runner, and we have video of it starting, running at idle, and a few throttle surges. The truck drives well and shifts through the gears, although it has not been tested around town given the inconsistency of the brakes. Please contact us for video.
