1978 Chevrolet Caprice

Vehicle Details

I am the third owner of this car and have owned it since 1998. It has been a daily driver all its life, and now has 325K miles on it. Starts and runs, engine is still solid. Transmission works fine but leaks, mostly out the front pump. Tires are 3 years old and have about 6K miles on them. The biggest problem is rust, unfortunately. the frame needs to be repaired in the rear over the rear axle where the crossmember is attached. Also, the front end needs to be rebuilt, because the front shocks are no longer attached to the lower control arms since that part of the control arms has rusted away. (See attached photos). I have all of the repair records for all three owners of this car, which has always been in the Washington, DC area. I even still have the factory window sticker, bill of sale, and dealer prep certificate. Due to the rust issues, it is a project or parts car, but it still drives okay, if you don't mind a very floating ride because the front shocks are not connected to the control arms. You could drive it home. The car was in an accident in the late 1980s that required the replacement of the front grill, bumper, header panel, and right fender. When they did this they used a grill from a 1977 Caprice. The grill inserts in the bumper are correct. I have the pieces of trim that are missing in the photos for the rear window and the left front fender. I removed them as they were in danger of falling off. I have some additional pictures that detail some of the rust issues that I can send upon request. This has been a very reliable car for the 24 years that I have owned it, but it now needs more work than I am able to do. Hopefully someone else can fix this up or use it for parts.
