1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible1963 marked the 10th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette and it was celebrated with a stunning new Sting Ray design. Produced for just five years, the styling impact of this body style can still be seen in modern cars some five decades after it was introduced.Notable features on the C2 Corvettes include aircraft-inspired gauge layout, independent rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes.
The 1967 Corvette marked the final and most highly refined of the groundbreaking and revered second-generation Corvettes. Sometimes referred to as a C2, the Corvette was offered in a convertible and, for the first time, a fastback coupe. Both designs offered unique styling and continued the Corvette tradition of fiberglass body design. Many serious enthusiasts feel that the final year offering of the C2 platform was the most refined and best all-around version of this design.
The vehicle's inner structure received as much attention as theaerodynamicsof its exterior.TheSting Ray emerged with nearly twice as muchsteelsupport in its central structure as the 1958–62 Corvette. The resulting extra weight was balanced by a reduction in fiberglass thickness, so the finished product actually weighed a bit less than the old roadster. Passenger room was as good as before despite the tighterwheelbase, and the reinforcing steel girder made the cockpit both stronger and safer.
There is nothing like a full-blown big block powertrain to boost any Corvette aficionado’s heart rate, especially high-quality examples such as this 1967 roadster. Casting “351†427 big block engine, complete withHigh Performance Square Port Heads.
Car & Driver magazine said in their May 1967 issuethat “As it sits, the Sting Ray is the most sophisticated passenger car made in America — in terms of engine, drivetrain, suspension and brakes — and among the best engineered sports cars made anywhere. If that isn't good enough to make it the Best All-Around Car of 1967, we'd like to know what is.â€
Retaining the original fiberglass body panels and the RPO L71 427/435 Turbo-Jet V-8 engine, this factory side-exhaust car was also equipped with a Muncie close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and 4.11 Positraction differential.
Finished in Tuxedo Black with the original hood, this Corvette is accented by a black convertible top and a black vinyl-covered removable hardtop over the extremely well preserved red interior.
A powerful Corvette, this would be a great car to take on vintage rallies, to car shows, tours, and club events. Or you could simply get in it on an early Sunday morning to wake up the neighbors. Beautifully presented throughout, this big block Corvette is ready for its next caretaker.
