327ci V8 L79/Muncie 4-Speed/Nice Original Interior/Side Pipes
1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
It is unwise to just tinker with an American classic like the Corvette Sting Ray. Changes should be meaningful. This fine road machine was and still is America's only true sports car. So, for 1965, the Sting Ray underwent subtle refinements in styling that only enhanced its unique looks and performance, always a basic measure of Sting Ray's appeal. A new "street" engine developing 350 horsepower answers most enthusiasts' needs for traffic and highway driving.
For consignment, a 1965 Bowtie warship (Corvette) with a 327ci 350hp drivetrain, red fiberglass, nice black interior and a white convertible top in excellent condition. Side-pipes, knockoff turbine style wheels, front quarter air vents (shark gills) and all restored to very nice condition, and we now have a classic for your driveway and ultimate enjoyment. Turn the key and be off!
Exterior
Red painted fiberglass showing some areas of distress mini "fractures" throughout can be seen if you look very closely. With the split wrap around bumpers, hidden headlights, newly designed grille and a hint of a stinger on the hood, the design for the front of this car is meant to slice through the air. A chromed trimmed windshield surround, and sleek rear of this car with more split wrap around bumpers and round taillights. These year 'Vettes really had the shark/stingray look. A nice white clean canvas top in convertible form is atop, and sports a clear plastic rear window, as well as moves up and down with ease. All this aero art form sits upon 15-inch turbine style knockoff hubs and all wrapped up in thin whites completes the "look".
Interior
Near perfect black vinyl covers the bomber style low back buckets that have a center console racing past them and up to the dash it goes. Here it ascends skyward housing the vertically mounted radio, and temp control knobs with a large chronograph clock in the center. From here the dash spreads out using 2 eyebrow arched panels, the driver's side housing the gauge and knob cluster, and the passenger side the brushed aluminum panel glovebox. Black padded vinyl covers the dash top and is all in excellent condition. A teak wood steering wheel fronts this clean and mean dash and adds a touch of warmth to the overall interior. Speaking of warmth, showroom condition black carpeting is flooding the floors, and a shout out to the door panels which are also near perfection with their molded plastic and chrome trimmings with chromed cranks, actuator and pulls. Behind the passengers a flip up tonneau red fiberglass hinged panel covers not only the top in the down position, but also a black carpeted storage area which is also nearly perfect in condition.
Drivetrain
Under the flip forward hood is an example of machined art with a full metal jacket 327ci V8 L79 powerplant. This is looking fine with cast aluminum valve covers, a single 4-barrel carburetor underneath the chromed air cleaner cover, and mixture is sent through an Edelbrock intake manifold. Nary even a sign of corrosion or rust, with even the exhaust manifold being no rust and looking newly blasted. All this is numbers matching including the Muncie M21 4 speed manual transmission with a 4.11 posi rear axle. Our decoder noticed that the numbers stamping on the engine block is a different type font size so any potential buyer may want to do a deeper dive into exactly why. For now, though we will go with numbers matching.
Undercarriage
All shiny black sprayed metal surfaces with little surface rust seen throughout. All structurally sound and all mixed together with some sporty Corvette suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes. Exhaust piping is quickly routed away from the engine to either side taking a sharp turn to the outside for the side pipes.
Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, smooth idle and upon the press of the accelerator, a quick response to move forward, so it was off to the test track. Here it handled like it was on rails, had bias free panic stopping, and fantastic acceleration from that all buttoned up 327 power plant. I noticed the radio was inoperable, and the headlights turn on, but did not pop up, so they will need a look-see.
A fine example of the 1965 Convertible Corvette, the right red, the right top (convertible) and the right engine (327/4BBL), and on the prowl for its next victim. "When the shark bites...."
