1959 Chevrolet Other Pickups Big Window
In the late '50s, Chevrolet trucks were unquestionably the best-looking, most modern haulers you could buy. Today, trucks like this 1959 Chevrolet Apache Big Window have an undeniable appeal with lots of chrome, wonderful styling, and a bunch of still-usable functionality. This one also happens to offer a burly 5.3L V8 Vortec LS motor, gorgeous paint, and a tastefully upgraded interior to go with it, making for a truck that you can drive anywhere.Any vehicle from the '50s is not going to be subtle, and the fact that the handsome hot-red finish works so well on the truck is a happy coincidence, but to be honest, these trucks would look right in just about any color. The bodywork is in excellent, top driver-quality condition, showing not only quality workmanship but a lifetime of easy living because it just fits together too darn well to have ever been broken and abused. The fleetside bed offers practicality as well as a great look with that slabside design and deep spear at the profile, and the way they're artfully styled to match the bodywork is more evidence that Chevy knew styling sold trucks as well as cars. The beautiful finish only shows very minor signs of being driven, so the overall look is quite appealing and it sure shines up nicely. Details like the front chrome bumper, the shiny wide grille, and quad headlights help strengthen the link between the passenger car line and the trucks, and you'll note a set of old-school round taillights that look like they came off of a streetrod hanging at the flanks of the tailgate. And when that tailgate is dropped, a beautifully finished oak bed is revealed - lightly stained (as in finish, not blemish) and protected with color-matched red slats in between the wood.
Using a pair of black leather buckets from a late-model means that climbing into this vintage truck feels very familiar. It's easy to get comfortable in the adjustable leather seats and with black carpeted floors and a neat headliner above, it's rather luxurious inside. A polished tilt column and leather-wrapped billet steering wheel add comfort without removing style and the original dashboard has been filled with a set of modern Dakota Digital analog/digital gauges in a chromed panel that fits like the original. Although it's high on comfort and style, the truck is rather light on options, but we think that's perfectly fine because it attaches the driver that much closer to the roar of the engine. And thanks to the use of extensive sound-deadening materials in the cab, that's about all that you'll be hearing inside anyway, as you feather the throttle up and down the tachometer. This is one old pickup that doesn't feel like an old pickup from behind the wheel.
A thumping 5.3L LS V8 Vortec motor delivers four or five times as much power as the original engine would have, so it's extremely entertaining on the road. It's fed by an electronic fuel injection system and Spectra cold air intake for snappy throttle response and with that oversized radiator and electric fan, this truck doesn't seem to mind sitting in traffic. The block's been augmented with 706 aluminum heads to pump up the already hefty horsepower and torque production, so you'd better understand that this sucker moves! A few polished dress-up pieces make it look tidy under the hood and the ceramic-coated long-tube headers snake out through the fender wells to feed a rumbling Flowmaster dual exhaust system that exits just ahead of the rear tires. Thanks to a more than capable 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, this truck is fast but easy to drive and with the suspension set-up with aftermarket shocks and springs, it has a wonderfully aggressive raked look that doesn't seem to compromise its ability to carry a load. A full tubular A-arm front suspension with power steering plus power front disc brakes mean that it rides and handles like a far younger truck and the uber-flashy Gitano 20-inch wheels with staggered 245/35/20 front and 245/35/20 rear Nitto performance tires are exactly the right choice.
As handsome as ever and tastefully modified, this Apache Big Window will become your favorite way to move your stuff around. Call today!
