1969 Chevrolet Corvette

Seller's Notes1969 Corvette convertible 4 speed 427 435hp Tri-power dealer converted to L88 in 1969.( has power steering and roll-up windows, position-traction and unconfirmed close ratio transmission, non power brakes, non AC.)Original owner had L88 conversion done aprox. summer of 1969 then selling it to second owner, a young lady of 22 years in the fall of 1969 and after a short while later had modifications performed for autocross and club events. After 20 years she parked her Corvette in her garage onto wooden blocks and there it remained under its custom cover for 30+ years ‘til her passing and acquisition by seller. It was decided to leave as much as possible as it was 30+ years ago when stored.

Taken out of storage the following work was performed:

Replaced new: battery, OEM spark plugs, fuel flush and OEM AC fuel pump (non logo AC , engine oil and period correct oil filter, new OEM L88 air filter element and hood seal. In the interest of safety it was decided to install stainless flex brake lines, new Willwood alloy calipers and new OEM master cylinder.

Remaining installed as discovered is a Mallory dual point distributor with Mallory spark coil, the original GM stamped L88 Holley carb (rebuilt with OEM Holley parts), race approved bell housing and racing oil pan, long tube steel headers with side exhausts and roll bar, real center hub knock-off wire wheels.

Numerous OEM spare parts including original complete Tripower intake, carbs, linkage, air filter, all smog components; air pump, brackets, hoses, gulp valve and air injection tubing, and original hood, original spare tire and cover, original radio, original brake calipers and fuel pump.

Many service records and race event plaques Corvette Club and SCCA,

warranty pamphlet with metal “Protect-O-Plate” in second owner’s name is included.

Original as ordered factory hard top and soft top.

For those who are unaware:

Car magazine reviewers in 1969 stated the L88 horsepower was purposely under rated at 430HP. Many publications and testers at the time stated the L88 true rating was well in excess of of its 430 rated HP and most likely in the area of 550 massive amounts of torque.

Articles written at the time stated the L88 equipped Corvette from the showroom floor achieved quarter miles times from 11.5 to 10.55 seconds depending on tires used.

Warning! Shameless boasting promotion and very biased opinion:

NOT a daily driver! This is a 103+ octane race fuel only beast of a car. Take it to the coffee shop and car show, vintage autocross. Blow the doors off the wannabe Cobra 427sc kit cars. Show them that the L88 powered

Corvettes were the definitive American high performance sports car.

And while all their time and money invested in their kit car slowly diminishes, the mightiest of the classic American sports car will appreciate in value. I must say the sight, sound and feel of an unchained big block with headers and side pipes is the unique and most impressionable near- religious experience one can have on 4 wheels.
