1965 Chevrolet Impala

1965 Chevrolet Impala

Residing on the African Savannah and confronted with a threat, the sleek, nimble, and fast Impala will take flight to outrun or confuse its competitor. Aptly named, the Chevrolet version introduced in 1958, continued to emulate its animal namesake through years of design modifications, and power options made available. In 1965, the jet age was in full swing, and automobile designers were transitioning from non functional visual embellishments, to sleek, cleaner line designs for their cars. Engineers also caught on that more power will attract more buyers, and the "race" was on!

Here in our halls we offer for consignment a 1965 Chevrolet Impala and I would venture into calling it a Resto-Mod. It nicely retains its original look, but has some extra sporty features added. New front suspension, a 350ci V8 crate engine with some overbore for extra guts, all original metal stripped and repainted, and some snappy 17 and 18 inch American Racing wheels. All badging blackened, and all chrome on this car looks freshly dipped in the liquid silver. A turnkey classic with some spice!

Exterior
All panels removed, all panels stripped, and then all panels put back on meticulously aligned, and laser straight. The paint is maroon, and is definitely the deep end of the pool, no rust, and nary even a scratch or dent. The front grille has been blackened, even the bezels for the dual dual headlights reside in a pool of black. The Chevrolet badge and bumper below are presenting in chrome. Moving rearward to the passenger glass, a beautifully straight and near perfect hood allows your eye to skate towards that glass and its shiny trimmings surrounding all the glass. Chrome round mirrors and handles are on each straight door. The rear quarters are nicely elongated and move straight to the rear of the car where a very straight trunk lid and the dual sets of 3 round taillights protrude from shiny bezels and a shiny bumper below. A note to the rear b pillar which is sloping back to the trunk in a very graceful line, and framing the clear rear glass. On the front we note 17 inch American Racing wheels for the front, and 18 inch wheels for the rear all wrapped up in 225/45ZR17 black walls upfront and 295/45R18's for the rear rollers.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we are in for a treat with some tuck and roll fawn colored panels complete with buttons and shiny handles and cranks for the windows. A taupe colored carpet borders the bottom of the door panels, and just slight smudging is seen above the pulls. Moving to the classic inside, newly covered Y and pentagon broadcloth inserts in light and dark stitching, and smooth cream colored bolsters and surrounds. Throw on some piping and buttons on the backs and we are in classic interior heaven. These front split bench seats are near perfect condition, as is the rear bench complete with the central badged speaker on the back middle of the rear bench. Light gold carpeting floods the floors and a nice tight headliner is above. The original padded top in dark taupe color is not showing any wear or cracking. An angled central panel houses the instruments, a vintage new radio and some round gauge clusters and a round clock at either chromed end. Below is a wood appliqu panel for the ignition, lights and wipers and temp and airflow sliders. Steering wheel is original.

Drivetrain
Opening the hood and we are greeted with some automotive beauty with a like new 350ci V8 crate engine which has been bored out .040 over to create a consigner stated 357ci V8. Within the confines of the mechanicals for this mill are Lunati cam, Isky lifters, and some snazzy green valve covers from M/T. A single 4-barrel carburetor is atop, and a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission is now on back with a 10-bolt 3.42 positraction rear.

Undercarriage
Just like the engine bay all shiny and rust free with some extra add ons of note, like 3C Fab racing trailing arms, totally new front suspension with Global West front springs. A shiny new exhaust is seen snaking through all the undercarriage and exiting in dual rear exhaust in back. Power front disc brakes are now on and power steering is noted. The consigner also states he has the original 283ci motor which could be purchased separately.

Drive-Ability
This car drives well, like a Resto-Mod should (where'd I hear that slogan Cowboy??!). Firing right up, and off to the test track where we drummed up some excitement with great acceleration, good handling and great brakes. All functions were working as they should and this car was a treat to drive in cruising style.

A nice job done for all aspects, new cloth for the interior, original dash and carpeting as well as door panels, beautifully done exterior, some new suspension and brakes, and the more powerful and slightly modded 350ci V8 crate engine, which looks the part as well. A turn key example looking snappy with its blacked out badges, black grille and menacing black wall tires with the American Racing enlarged wheels.
