396ci V8/M-21 4-Speed/Hugger Orange/Nice Chrome
1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Coupe
1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Coupe
Like the Tri-Five Chevys that came before it, the Chevelle is one of those cars GM aced right out of the gate and continued to perfect. Eventually, the marque became one of the strongest brands in automotive history; and at one point, with a full list of body styles, options, trim grades, color combinations, and engines which ranged from mild to outrageous, literally embodied the 'custom built' nature that defines the muscle car era.
Over the past few years, we've certainly seen some nice Chevelle SS Coupes. But this vivid 1967 Chevelle, with a 396ci V8, smooth Muncie M21 4 speed manual and muscle car stance underpinned with new front shocks, and new rear upper and lower control arms, is definitely one of the hottest. With a complete restoration 12 years ago, our current owner and consigner has done a lot of recent wrenching on his own to "upkeep" that restoration. Fully sorted and ready to hit the road, this awesome Chevy combines its racy engine with vintage Detroit style that's classy enough to lead a parade. And today, it is a reliable and exceptionally comfy place to spend a few days behind the wheel just driving, it's also an authentic piece of Americana that'll be welcomed at virtually any car show in any town.
Exterior
Riddle me this captain...What happens when you take the body off the frame, remove all rust, sand panels down meticulously then re hang them on to a restored frame, and as you are hanging them, mind their gaps perfectly. Bathe them in a coat of deep end of the pool driver's quality Hugger Orange paint, polish all the chrome trimmings and hang that on top of the painted steel panels, throw on some sexy polished Cragars and Mickey Thompson rubber, and front the entire thing with an SS badge?? You have this car and the potential to have it sitting in your driveway, and gracing your garage, that's what. How about those oranges??
Interior
Swing the black vinyl covered door frame open to the interior, and what do you now have? The interior! Yes its snappy, yes its sexy, yes it's like new with its smooth low back vinyl buckets trimmed with chromed edging. Give the back of the car permission to place a bench that stretches from side to side for some extra passengers to enjoy your driving, and mimic the buckets, and you are in...1967 heaven. Upfront look at that original dash with black padded top overhanging a wood appliqu that runs underneath from door to door. Directly underneath this level is the original instrument cluster level with an added in tachometer to far drivers left. The vintage style radio is in the center and button for the passenger glove box in front of the passenger seat. Then level 4 where we note a large panel with 5 rows of controls from A/C to outlets to heat to defrost to fan speed to just plain fresh air, and the glovebox. Then the basement if you will with a hanging trio of amps, oil pressure and water temp aftermarket gauges and the chronolog clock embedded into the center console. Also, in the console what to my wandering eyes does appear? A Hurst Shifter...bring on the oohs and aaaaahs! Black carpet in clean condition floods these floors and above a black vinyl headliner with some wrinkles and slight low hanging areas (it's not tight but still right).
Drivetrain
Underneath the dual vented in chrome hood is the 396ci V8 complete with orange painted block, and Edelbrock intake manifold, and a 4-barrel Holley carb atop. A Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission sporting a new Centerforce clutch (4/1/2020) is strapped to the back of this mill, and a 12-bolt rear is now on. Exhaling is courtesy Sanderson headers, and this engine bay has just recently been repainted and detailed, and it looks it. Also, plenty of chromed bolt ons add more candy to the bay.
Undercarriage
Fairly well preserved with nicely painted black frame, new exhaust and Magnaflow mufflers, nicely preserved floorpans and the bottom end of the engine is spotless. Power brakes are on all 4 corners, discs for the front, and drums for the back. Consigner states discs have been upgraded. All looking good underneath.
Drive-Ability
Started right up and ran like a 1967 Chevelle SS with a 396ci V8 4 bbl should. Good braking, smooth shifting, and decent cornering, it can get a little happy on the back if you get too goosey with the boot. All was functioning the consigner also states that an A/C unit will come with this car, but is not installed.
A definite driver quality paint job that has some battle scars, but still looking like it just came out of the booth overall. A wonderful presenting and running 396ci V8, and snappy interior looking mostly original, and we have a fine driver example of the 1967 Chevelle SS. Orange you now interested too??!
