1969 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

What happened in 1969? Major news stories include The Beatles' last public performance on the roof of Apple Records, first Concorde test flight is conducted In France, Boeing 747 jumbo jet makes its debut, Woodstock attracts more than 350,000 rock-n-roll fans, members of a cult led by Charles Manson murder five people, Chappaquiddick Affair Senator Edward Kennedy, PBS Established, the first man is landed on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission by the United States and Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon.

For consignment, a 1969 Camaro SS, now a competition car. Our consigner owned her for 40 years and had or did all the work to get her to the state she's in today. Loads of performance upgrades, and an 427ci L 71 1967 Corvette engine, (maybe there is a Corvette out there needing a matching numbers engine?). Either way a fun straight liner looking the part right out of a 1969 arm dropper movie, only this one ALWAYS gets the hot girl!

Exterior
Speaking of hot, this car is bathed in deep red hot paint. There are accenting wide black stripes on the front and rear deck lids, the front sporting a Harwood hood and large scoop. Bumpers are blacked as is the front grille and headlight bezels. It has a jacked up racing stance, and sports Harwood fiberglass doors with Lexan for door and quarter windows for weight reduction. The stance is courtesy 50-50 rear drag shocks and leaf springs and is finished off with Centerline Drag Wheels and Goodyear Eagles drag tires.

Interior
Climbing through a 6-point cage with swingers we position ourselves into the fiberglass racing buckets. Reaching out to our right we grab a Hurst shifter complete with a Hurst line loc, and Hurst reverse lockout. Carpet is long gone, and a custom fabricated center console houses the shifter. A wood rimmed Grant rally wheel fronts the dash now and sports a Z28 close ratio steering box. A Sun Super Tach II and an additional AutoMeter Tach are now mounted. Below the dash are Stewart Warner 3 panel gauges to keep track of all the essentials as you blow down the straight quarter mile. Brushed aluminum for the sleek door panels, and the rear seat has long since been removed.

Drivetrain
As noted, a 1967 Chevy Corvette 427 L71 V8 now graces the engine bay. This has been modified to have 11.5-1 compression and an L88 solid lift cam. On top is a Weiand Team G intake, and a Holley 850 CFM double pumper carb. On back is bolted a Muncie M21 with a 2.03 first gear, and a Lakewood blow proof bell housing. A Zoom clutch and pressure plate is on. The rear axle configuration consists of Summers Brothers 33 spline axles, c clip eliminators and Sheifer gears. It is a 12-bolt with a 4.88 locker. A custom driveshaft with Lakewood U joints moves the power rearward. As a note, the engine stamping number is as follow T02I6JA 7112066 (Tonawanda February 16th 1967, 427ci V8 435hp 3X2bbl carbs. This engine came from either Corvette 194377S112066 or Corvette 194677S112066, does it still exist???).

Undercarriage
Only the essentials now exist like solid body bushings and chassis mounts, a C clip eliminator kit, Lakewood traction bars, a Holley fuel pump which is mounted on the rear and has a filter attached. A 10-gallon Harwood fuel cell uses 1/2 inch fuel lines to feed the mill. Wilwood front disc brakes provide the Woah! and drums help out on the back. Hooker headers are bolted on to the sides and exhaust through Flowmaster mufflers.

Drive-Ability
Our muscle car master took this example for a ride, and he reported it was an E ticket ride. All functions were working perfectly, and he could tell the car leaves hard and straight due to no build shortcuts. The consigner states that a run in '97 yielded a 10.99 @ 122MPH with a 5000RPM chip.

Spending its life in a heated garage, alas time has come where downsizing is needed, so the car will go. A meticulous build with attention to straight line speed, and a real classic looker in the 69 Camaro form, a classic straight liner with all the right stuff. 3.....2.....1....LIFTOFF!!
