1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L-82 – NUMBERS MATCHING – ORIGINAL PAINT – ORIGINAL INTERIOR– NEVER RESTORED - ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.
I purchased this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L-82 from a private car collector in Georgia in 2007. I drove it right off his personal showroom floor, out to the highway and straight up to Virginia. What an incredible ride that was – not 1 single issue or hiccup. It runs even better today than when I bought it as I have made a couple of upgrades, (see below). This is a completely original numbers matching car. The interior is absolutely beautiful and everything (including the clock) works perfectly. There is very little wear on the carpet and seats and none on the dash, doors or T-Tops. To my knowledge, this vehicle has never even been smoked in – which is pretty great for a car that was purchased in 1974.
Some of the original equipment:
- T-Tops.
- Air-Conditioning – The original A/C and Heat work perfectly.
- Power Steering.
- Tilt Steering.
- Power Brakes.
- Power Windows.
- Rear Chrome Luggage Rack
- Original Corvette period polished aluminum wheels with disc brakes.
- Original stereo is still in the dash but I had a modern stereo added to the car, (see below).
- Original Power Stereo Antenna.
- Original Clock – works perfectly.
- All original Gauges and Dials – all work perfectly.
A little bit about the 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray:
The 1974 Stingray equipped with the L-48 195 hp small-block was capable of 0-60 in 6.8 seconds; comparable to the 6.5 second time of the 1968 small-block rated at 300 hp; proof the 1972-1974 Corvette engines had ample power regardless of reduced horsepower and net (bhp) ratings. The L-82 engine remained at 250 hp and the 454 cu. in. (7.4L) LS4 dropped slightly to 270 hp.
Hi-Performance Cars magazine in a L-48, L-82 and LS4 comparison test, September 1973, said: "Our choice for the all-around best performer must go to the base 350 L-48 engine...The L-48 delivers all the acceleration you'll ever need on the road in a steady, forceful manner... in addition it runs cool, idles smoothly, and can cruise all day at 100 mph (160 km/h). The L-48 took 6.8 seconds to reach 60 mph (97 km/h), the L-82, 6.7 seconds and the LS4 454, 6.4 seconds. On the Bridge Hampton road course and over the ride and handling course at Suffolk County Raceway, the base L-48 coupe was again our choice...the L-82 had the same balance as the L-48 but if we weren't at the right rpm through a corner, or in the wrong gear, the (L-82's) lack of torque made itself felt once again...the L-48 was the best balanced of the three. Resonators were added to the dual exhaust system on 1974 models which further helped quiet the interior which had already been quieted by 40% in 1973. The radiator and shroud were revised for better low-speed cooling. The inside rear-view mirror width was increased from 8 inches to 10 inches. Four Resonators the first time, lap and shoulder seat belts were integrated, but only in coupes. The FE7 Gymkhana "off-road" suspension included stiffer springs and a stiffer front stabilizer bar with no ordering restrictions. 1974 was the end of an era for the Corvette with the last true dual exhaust systems, the last without a catalytic converter and the last use of the 454 cubic inch big block engine.
2011: Installed a custom stereo sound system which was installed under the rear deck so the original stereo could remain in the dash. This custom sound system includes an amplifier and speakers (none of which can be seen). The new sound system works from a small handheld remote and includes CD, XM Radio and Bluetooth.
2012: Modified the transmission to the 700R4 style. The 700R4 is considered one of the best transmissions ever made. This transmission modification offers my Corvette an over-drive gear eliminating the “Engine Whining†which could be heard starting at only 55mph with the unmodified transmission. I can now cruise comfortably at 75mph with absolutely “No Engine Whiningâ€.
2013: I heard that Corvette designed an “original specification†oversized racing radiator for the Stingray. I did my research and had one installed. What an absolutely awesome upgrade. My Corvette can idle in a parking lot in 100 degree weather and stay nice and cool. Well worth the money.
2019: Replaced all fuel lines and fuel related parts. Cleaned, refurbished and replaced worn out parts on the 4bbl. carburetor to bring it to its fully restored quality.
2020: Replaced Battery,Etc.
