Description:

1986 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1986 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was sold new in May 1986 at Chris Auffenberg Chevrolet of Kirkwood, Missouri, and remained in the St. Louis area through September 2019. I aquired the car from the third owner out of Mississippi in November of last year, and is finished in Bright Red with a white soft top over a red leather interior. Power is provided by a 5.7L V8 mated to a “4+3” manual transmission, and maintenance within the past six months included replacement of the intake manifold gasket set, the installation of a new thermostat and heater control valve, and an oil change. This C4 convertible now shows just under 20k miles and is offered with factory literature, records, a factory Indianapolis 500 decal kit, a car cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Minnesota title in my name.
The exterior is finished in Bright Red (81) with a manually-operated white vinyl top. Features include integrated halogen fog lamps, dual remote-adjustable side mirrors, quad exhaust tips, and flip-up headlights. The top displays sealed holes that are shown up close in the photo gallery.
Factory 16” turbine-style aluminum wheels wear BFGoodrich g-Force tires showing 2006 date codes. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs, and front and rear stabilizer bars came standard.
The seats were optioned in red leather with matching door panels and carpets and a contrasting black dash. Amenities include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, power locks and windows, air conditioning, a tilt/telescopic steering, cruise control, and an AM/FM radio. One of two lights in the storage area behind the seats is noted to be out.
The digital instrument panel displays a bar graph-style 85-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows a little under 20k miles, approximately 1,300 of which were added by me.

The 5.7L L98 V8 is equipped with aluminum cylinder heads and was rated at 235 horsepower when new. Recent maintenance has included replacement of the intake manifold gaskets, the installation of a new thermostat and heater control valve, and an oil change. One of two engine illumination lamps located on the underside of the clamshell hood is out and cruise control is not working.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Doug Nash 4+3, which is a four-speed manual transmission with pushbutton-activated electrohydraulic overdrive in the top three gears. The pushbutton is located atop the shifter, the operation of which can be seen in the videos. The clutch hydraulic system was recently bled.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration history in Missouri, Mississippi, and Minnesota.Videos can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVf_hDYcv7ZzkK7B4UjeXeD3ykNOjgzU_.
