LSA-Powered1970 Chevrolet Chevelle

I bought this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle six years ago out of Iowa and immediately began the pro-touring build. Highlights can be seen in the bullets below.

The bodywork has been refinished in Candy Red with Tuxedo Black striping. The paintwork was completed by May 2017. Touch-up paint will accompany the car. Other exterior features include SS-style badging, trim, hood, grille, and bumpers. Staggered 18″ x 8″ front and 20″ x9.5″ rear US Mags Rambler wheels are mounted over a Wilwood big-brake kit with six- and four-piston calipers, adjustable RideTech coilover suspension, and aftermarket upper and lower control arms. Additional modifications include 2″drop spindles, a Detroit Speed quick-ratio steering box, and larger front and rear sway bars.

  • ·Supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 GM crate engine
  • ·Five-speed TKO 600 manual transmission
  • ·12 bolt rear end with Positraction
  • ·RideTech coilover suspension,
  • ·Wilwood disc brakes
  • ·SS-style Dakota Digital VHX instrumentation
  • ·VintageAir climate control
  • ·Retrosound Bluetooth stereo
  • ·American Autowire wiring harness
  • ·Detroit Speed quick-ratio steering box

This pro-touring Chevelle SS tribute comes with paperwork including receipts, instruction and installation manuals for aftermarket parts, an uninstalled cruise-control module and front speakers, and a clean Colorado title.

The interior features bolstered bucket seats with black upholstery and new 3-point safety belts. An upgraded one-piece carpet was installed recently in November 2019 to accommodate the larger transmission tunnel. The car has been rewired with a harness from American Autowire. Features include a Vintage Air Gen IV climate-control system, a Silversport short-throw shifter, a Retrosound stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, Infinity Reference speakers, and an Ididit tilt steering column with cruise control.

A three-spoke steering wheel with an SS center cap sits in front of SS-style Dakota Digital VHX instrumentation with illuminated needles and LCD readouts. The digital odometer shows approximately 2,900 miles, which reflects mileage accumulated since the engine installation.

The General Motors crate engine is factory rated to produce 580 horsepower and 556 lb-ft of torque. Additional features include a three-row Frostbite radiator with dual 14″ electric fans in a custom shroud as well as a 20-gallon stainless-steel fuel tank. An in-tank electric pump rated at 100 psi and 400 lph was installed alongside a VaporWorx PWM fuel regulator.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed TKO 600 manual transmission that features a Quicktime SFI-approved bellhousing, an upgraded clutch, and a hydraulic throwout bearing. The 12-bolt rear end houses a limited-slip differential, and in September 2018 a Yukon 3.31:1 ring gear and pinion set was installed.
