34K Original Miles/Clean Interior/Good Maintenance/Excellent Undercarriage
1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28
1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Where did the Z28 monicker come from? It was the next code after Z27 on the RPO list. In 1967 GM wanted to produce just enough Camaros for racing in the Trans Am series, they developed a car for it but couldn't come up with a name for it. The RPO assigned to this package was Z28, so they called it that since it was a catchy phrase. In 1968 it became a separate model for Camaros.
For consignment, a beautiful example of the Z28 from 1986. With an odometer statement, and some engine upgrades as to newer parts, this beauty is a turn key car, ready to roll out of the halls of the Classic Auto Mall, and into your driveway, or down Main Street! From a small car collection of a former police chief of the Philadelphia suburbs, barely driven, and in excellent condition.
Exterior
Bathed in menacing black paint, which is showing some clear coat wear on the horizontal surfaces, we can see integrated bumpers, black window trimmings and surrounds, and a nicely preserved gray surrounding stripe that encircles the car. This is wide on the bottom and has a trio of fading to darker smaller stripes directly above, also encircling the vehicle. Panels are straight and minding their gaps very nicely. Up front are dual rectangle headlights embedded deep within the front assembly flanking the vented hood. On the back is a snazzy small spoiler at the bottom of a curved tinted greenhouse glass rear window, and this wraps taillights which include brake lights, turn signals, and the backup lights all in a row. 15 inch 5 spoke rectangular star pattern wheels are on, and sport a black center hub, with a Camaro badge in the center.
Interior
As we swing the large dual doors, we shake hands with pristine door panels in angle striped broadcloth on top and gray carpet below. In keeping with the 1980's square and rectangle design a black plastic panel houses the door handle, side view mirror adjuster toggle, and the top of the interior door pull. Slipping into the passenger compartment, we sit upon angled striped dark and light gray broadcloth inserts, and simple clean gray broadcloth inserts. Some piping adds accent. A rear duo of more buckets broken up by the hump is in back and could be called 2 plus 2 style. Racing up the center, is a square and rectangle design console in black which houses a glovebox, power window toggles and the automatic shifter. Moving upward to meet the dash, is the digital radio and temperature and airflow controls. For the dash a black textured plastic panel houses several round black bezel gauges, with the speedometer reading a mere 34,226 original miles. Gray carpet covers the floors and is clean. Gray floor mats slightly soiled (that is what they are there for) protect the original carpet. A gray felt headliner in near perfect condition floats above the passenger compartment and rounds out the interior.
Drivetrain
A clean 305ci LG4 V8 not know if original to this car due to stamping being rusted over, but assumed to be so, is shoe horned into the clean engine bay. Supple hoses and clean corrosion free parts are attached to every corner of this power plant. A single 4-barrel carburetor is atop, and a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission is on back throwing power rearward to a 10-bolt 3.42 rear axle.
Undercarriage
All rust free, original structural steel, floor pans and unibody construction is seen underneath and represents the low mileage. All sound under here showing the independent coil spring front suspension and coil springs and a torque arm for the rear. Power disc brakes are on front, and power drums for the rear. A single exhaust system is seen with catalytic converter replaced by a "test tube" system, with the original retained.
Drive-Ability
Super quick fire up with barely a crank with a few pumps of the gas pedal and we were off to the test track. Here this performed perfectly, with good acceleration, nice handling, and awesome stopping power. All the interior workings were working, and all is well inside and outside.
A low mileage example, well kept by its collector owners, and driven solely for enjoyment as it should be. Pristine condition, and beautifully clean interior, just hop in and turn the key and you are off like we were.
