Please find listed below are the findings regarding this vehicle’s originality and condition.
I. Originality. The following items have been physically examined and judged as original or not original to vehicle. Items not listed below have not been inspected for originality
A. Engine,
1. The engine block casting date, “K 5 9†or November 5,1969; located on the LH or driver’s side of the engine block, horizontal surface behind the passenger side cylinder head, had been photographed
a. This casting date is consistent with engine assembly date, as seen on the original Protecto-plate which is “1 21†or an engine assembly date of January 21, 1970.
2. The engine block casting number, “3963512†or November 5,1969; located on the driver’s or LH side of the engine block, horizontal surface behind the LH side cylinder head, had been photographed
a. Casting number “3963512†was only used on 1969 427s and 1970-71 454s.
3. This engine block has the provision for an external oil cooler and has four bolt mains, exclusive to 1970 LS6 #512 blocks
a. This feature has been photographed.
4. The engine block VIN number stamp, assembly date and engine id code, located passenger side horizontal surface ahead of RH cylinder head has been re-stamped, and has been photographed,
a. Block has had to been decked during a prior rebuild, resulting in the original stamping be lost.
b. Someone has attempted a poor re-stamp.
i. Broach marks are missing.
ii. The first two characters are also missing from the partial VIN stamp
iii. Assembly date on block re-stamp is “2 17†and the one on the original Protecto-plate is “1 21.â€
iv. The “CRR†stamp has much more definition than other originals we have observed.
Summary: This Engine block assembly is the original, born-with item installed at the Arlington assembly plant. Because this engine has its original #512 block, that it’s casting date is in line with all other components (Build sheet, Protecto-Plate, date codes on Transmission, Differential, Carburetor and distributor); it our opinion that even though this block has been re-stamped but is original to this vehicle.
B. Transmission
1. ID TAG, containing “CYâ€, “353†located on the tag riveted on the vertical surface, passenger side of the main transmission case, has been photographed
a. “CY†is the correct transmission ID code for 1970 Chevelles with LS6 and L78 solid lifter engines.
b. “353†is the Julian date of this transmission’s assembly date which is December 17, 1969.
i. This data is consistent with the way this vehicle was equipped from the factory, per the pro-tecto plate and build sheet.
ii. The assembly date is consistent with the vehicle’s January 1970 assembly date.
2. VIN Stamp, “10R203756†located on the LH-driver’s-vertical surface of transmission case, has been photographed.
a. “10R203756†is the portion of the full VIN number as it appears on horizontal surface of the dash panel, driver’s side, directly behind the windshield glass.
Summary:This transmission assembly is the original, born-with item installed at the Arlington assembly plant.
Tag and stamp on transmission is unaltered and is consistent with others we seen, inspected, photographed, etc.
C. Differential
1. The “CRU†ID Code is correct for a 1970 Chevelle equipped with 3.31 gears and no posi. It has been photographed, appears to not have been altered and is visible on the vertical surface of the passenger side, front of the differential tube.
2. The assembly date, “12 05 B 2†translates to December 5, 1969, Buffalo NY Second Shift assembly plant. It has been photographed, appears to be unaltered and is visible on the vertical surface of the passenger side, front of the differential tube.
3. Differential housing casting date, “L 1 9†or November 1, 1969, has been photographed, is cast into the housing, is unaltered and is consistent with the differential’s assembly date which is 30 days later. This casting date can be seen on the rear vertical surface, passenger side of the differential housing.
Summary: This Differential assembly is the original, born-with item installed at the Arlington assembly plant. The stamped area is unaltered and is consistent with others we seen, inspected, photographed, etc.
Additional information regarding this vehicle’s Differential ID Code:The correct code for a 4.10 Posi is “CKKâ€, not “CRU.†We suspect the factory incorrectly stamped this housing. Or this vehicle was mistakenly delivered new with 3.31 gears, rather than 4.10 ratio listed on the build sheet.
D. Distributor
1. Stamp on housing, “111437†and “9L11†located on vertical surface, side of distributor housing, has been photographed.
a. “1111437†is the correct Distributor ID Code for 1970 LS6 Chevelles only
b. “9 L 11†or November 11, 1969 is the distributor’s assembly date
i. This data is consistent with the vehicle’s final assembly date of January, 1970 and the data listed on the vehicle protecto-plate, build sheet, etc.
Summary: Distributor assembly is the original, born-with item installed at the Arlington assembly plant. This distributor’s stamping is unaltered and is consistent with others we seen, inspected, photographed, etc.
E. Carburetor
1. Stamp on housing, “3969898â€, “9 B 2†located on vertical surface, air horn, RH side, has been photographed.
a. “3969898†is the correct Carburetor ID Code for 1970 LS6 Chevelles equipped with automatic transmissions, only
b. “9 B 2†or the second week of December, 1969 is this carburetor’s assembly date
i. This data is consistent with the vehicle’s final assembly date of January, 1970 and the data listed on the vehicle protecto-plate, build sheet, etc.
Summary: Carburetor assembly is the original, born-with item installed at the Arlington assembly plant. This carburetor’s stamping is unaltered and is consistent with others we seen, inspected, photographed, etc.
F. VIN Tag
1. VIN tag “136370R203756†located on horizontal surface, drivers side, behind windshield glass is clearly visible, and was photographed

VIN tag appears to be unaltered, showing normal wear and aging for being 50 years, and is consistent with others we seen, inspected, photographed, etc.

1. Cowl Tag, located on horizontal LH rear surface, under hood, on top of the cowl, clearly visible, was photographed

· Codes on cowl tag match the way this vehicle is equipped.
H. Brakes, Master Cylinder Assembly
1. This is the original factory installed Delco Moraine component

I. Alternator
1. Has a 834 Delco Remy Number, should be #837
a. This component is not the original item installed at the factory
b. This item has been photographed.
J. Ignition Coil, #293
1. This is the original factory installed Delco Remy component or an exact reproduction

K. Intake Manifold, #3963536
1. This is the factory installed component installed on the engine at the Tonawanda Engine plant.
a. This item has been photographed.
II. II.Condition
A. Exterior.
1. Paint and Vinyl Top
a. The exterior finish appears to have redone in last 10-15 years, is in good condition with very little orange peel, especially on the horizontal surfaces
i. Our detail service recently color sanded all exterior surfaces and buffed, polished as needed to bring the vehicle to its full potential.
ii. In the middle of the LR quarter panel, above the wheel opening, some filler cracking can be seen if you look hard enough for it.
b. Panel fit is excellent and gaps between doors, deck lid, hood, etc as good or better than new
c. The vinyl top appears to be fairly new, fits correctly and has the correct original grain and configuration.
2. Exterior trim, bumpers, grill, lights, lens
a. All but the front and rear bumpers, appear to be excellent restored or original condition and are showing very little or no wear
b. The front and rear bumpers are high quality reproduction items.
3. Doors, ease of closing
a. Both doors open and close easily
b. Side glass fit to either other and body is excellent
4. Stainless exterior trim, windshield and side glass, wiper arms
a. All trim appear to be in excellent restored or original condition and are showing very little or no wear
b. Windshield is a reproduction with LOF etchings. The date code has not been checked.
c. Door and rear window glass appear to be original to vehicle and are showing moderate scratches
i. We did not take the time to check these item’s date codes and ascertain for sure if they are original to the vehicle
5. Tires, wheels, center caps and trim rings
a. Tires are the correct size reproduction Firestone Wide Ovals and showing little or no wear
i. No cracking or weather-checking is visible
ii. We did not check the manufacture date on tires
b. Wheels and center caps have not pulled and verified but we believe they are original to vehicle
i. These items appear to be in good original condition
ii. We will verify whether the four wheels on the ground before the vehicle is advertised.
c. Trim rings on four wheels on ground are reproduction items.
B. Undercarriage:
1. General Condition
a. This vehicle has never received a frame-off or rotisserie restoration, just routine maintenance.
i. No collision damage is visible, such as, a bent frame, damaged control arms, trailing arms, core support, etc.
ii. All control arm bushings, rubber parts appear to be good condition and are showing little or no wear
iii. Both front and rear coil springs have been replaced resulting the vehicle’s curb height being slightly higher than original.
iv. Brakes, Steering, front and rear suspension all appear to be in good, driver condition
· Calipers, rotors and drums appear to be original GM components, not generic replacements
· All components are covered with rattle-can black paint
v. All four shock absorbers are fairly new replacement, non-original gas items
2. Frame, control arms, and other suspension parts are not rust pitted and appear to have never been exposed to four-seasons type, weather, road salt, or high humidity
a. Frame side rails have been slightly bent by the prior use of a floor jack
3. Exhaust system, is showing some wear, and is a decent quality replacement system without resonators
a. Correct GM replacement exhaust extensions or “cow bells†are present.
b. No rust holes can be seen.
4. The differential assembly is un-restored, has been spray painted over moderate surface rust
a. No damage can be seen to either the diff housing and its related components
b. No leaks can be seen.
5. Floor pan, fuel tank and fuel lines, under-body are in good original or restored condition
a. Factory original body Schultz sound deadener is present in both rear wheel house areas, is in good condition and leads us to believe this vehicle has not sustained any or very little collision damage
b. Fuel and brake lines are appear to be original or reproduction components in good condition
c. Fuel tank is a reproduction replacement item.
d. Floor pan is original, undamaged and has had restoration black rattle-can overspray installed in an amateur fashion.
i. No rust repair can be seen or suspected
e. Factory pinch welds are present on the bottom of both quarters, between trunk, drop-down panels and the quarter panels themselves behind the rear wheel openings.
f. No after-market tar, undercoating or filler materials are present that would be used cover up of rust or collision damage.
C. Under-Hood:
1. Overall condition is to a good restored level, but not to a national show level quality.
a. All items are relatively clean and appear fully functional
b. Restoration is not to a national judging standard level.
i. Items like hood hinges, latches, catches, etc. are painted rather than be plated in their correct original black-oxide, zinc or phosphate finishes.
ii. Paint can be seen on fasteners that should plated finish
2. Engine assembly
a. Clean and refinished in the correct orange finish
b. Exhaust manifolds suffer from minor discoloring as a result of vehicle being stored for a short period of time in some humidity.
i. Exhaust manifolds are believed to be original to vehicle but we have not verified
c. Minor oil leaks are seen coming from the rear main seal and oil pan
3. All factory emission or smog parts including the pump, hoses, etc. are present including the TCS (Transmission Control System)
a. Both systems appear to be working.
b. The LH air tube for the smog system is not of the correct configuration.
4. Brake components, including lines, master cylinder and power brake booster
a. Lines are good quality replacement or original items in good condition.
b. PB Booster is either a original rebuilt or reproduction component in good working order
c. The master cylinder is the original Delco component
d. No leaks are present
5. Alternator, Battery and charging system
a. The alternator is a non-original replacement part in good working order. Alternator output was recently checked and is good.
b. The fasteners attaching the alternator and smog pump to the engine are not correct
c. All wiring appears to be in good condition
d. Belt is a quanta reproduction part
e. Battery is a brand new generic side terminal replacement with a Delco topper installed.
6. Wiper motor and related parts
a. All are present, are in good working order and appear to be excellent restored or original components.
7. Horns and wiring harnesses
a. Both original horns are present, working and in good condition
b. All wiring harnesses are either original or reproduction and in good condition
8. Cowl Induction system
a. All components are present, are in good working order and appear to be excellent restored or original components.
9. Radiator and cooling system
a. All items appear to be in good-working order
b. Hoses and clamps are reproduction parts
c. No coolant leaks are present.
d. The radiator is a fairly new generic replacement item.
10. Power steering system
a. All components are present, are in good working order and appear to be in excellent restored or original condition
b. PS Belt is a Quanta reproduction item
c. The steering box, PS pump and steering column appear to be original and in good working order.
d. No leaks are present
e. Hoses are generic replacements
D. Interior:
1. Dash, dash pad, electrical switches, gauges, heater controls, radio
a. Dash assembly is an original component, not reproduction, and is in fair to good condition
i. No cracks or holes cut in this assembly are visible
b. Tachometer is a reproduction item
c. The fuel gauge is not the correct item for a factory tach and gauge installation.
d. The dash pad is original and is in good original condition
e. Some gauges have been replaced by after-market items
f. All lights work in dash except for the RH turn signal indicator.
g. Radio is original AM-Eight Track unit and is showing some moderate aging and wear
i. Per the original purchase agreement, the new car selling dealer installed this item.
2. Seats and Seat Belts, all components, frames, seat material, plastic seat backs, etc.
a. Are a original or reproduction components in good to excellent condition
b. Pleats in front and rear seat material are present, and are of the correct original configuration.
3. Door panels and windshield interior moldings
a. Are original components in good to excellent condition
4. Carpet and Sill Plates
a. Are quality reproduction items in good to excellent condition
5. Under-dash, wiring, heater box, etc.
a. All components including the firewall pad, heater box, pedal assembly are original and in good un-restored condition
b. The under dash wiring harness appears to be butchered somewhat for the installation of aftermarket gauges.
6. Steering column assembly and steering wheel
a. Cancelling function works for turn signal
b. Both items are in good restored condition.
7. Door Jam Areas
a. We believe the painted surfaces in the door jamb areas are original finishes installed at the factory.
b. Weather-striping and seals are original and in good to excellent condition.
c. “Manufacturer by General Motors†ID Tag listing vehicles VIN and Assembly Date appears to be original, not reproduction item.
8. Head liner, sail panels, package tray and interior moldings
a. All items are either excellent original or high quality reproduction items.
E. Trunk:
1. Trunk floor, all metal surfaces seen inside trunk
a. Top side of trunk floor, inside surfaces of both quarter panels, wheel tubs and bottom surfaces of package tray appear to be original, not rust pitted or to have had any collision or rust repairs
b. Quarter panel and trunk walls have their original spackle paint, and are original to vehicle.
2. Spare tire and bumper jack components
a. All jack components are original and present and are in good un-restored condition
b. The spare tire and Uniroyal wheel are the original components.
3. Trunk mat, weather-strip, and painted finishes inside trunk
a. Trunk mat and weather-strip are quality reproduction parts
b. Spackle finish is trunk and been redone on the horizontal surfaces, not the quarter walls
III.Operations
A. All lights work except the RH in-dash directional indicator
B. Engine starts easily and runs smoothly with lots of power.
1.A moderate oil leak is observed coming from the rear main seal
C. Transmission shifts smoothly
1.Passing gear works
2.Moderate leaks can be seen at the pan and tail shaft seal
D. No differential whining noise can be heard.
E. Steering is smooth,
1.Steering wheel appears to be centered when going forward
2.Steering does not pull to one side or the other
F. Brakes work as they should
1.No leaks have been observed
2.Pedal is hard and vehicle stops straight, i.e., does not pull one way for the other.
