1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

In 1966 Mustangs were flying out of Ford showrooms, and Chevrolet needed an answer. After many secret meetings, and covert internal press events, engineers unveiled the official name for what had been known up to this point as XP-836. Camaro was the chosen namesake, and immediately the question became "but what does it mean?". This question has no official linguistic answer, but as Chevrolet marketing people would answer "It's an animal that eats Mustangs!"

For consignment a nice slightly modified Chevrolet Camaro from its second year of offering to the public. With a 350ci V8, camelback heads, a TH400 with a 2400 stall converter, a B&M shifter and a Reverse valve body, some nice exterior paint, and a virtually new interior and ladies and gentlemen we have a great example, slightly custom.

Exterior
Butternut Yellow paint with several over coats of clear adorn this Camaro. A shiny black stripe wraps around the front hood and grille area, framing a 327 insignia noting the displacement, albeit incorrect. Paint is in very good condition, and a new black vinyl top has been recovered in place of the original. Front grille area is very clean, and headlight surrounds are free of imperfections or flaking. All chrome is in excellent condition, and polished to a sparkling shine. Wheels are polished Centerline Auto Drag Wheels with 14 inches for the front, and 15 inches for the rears. Tires are oversized Grand AM Radial GT's. All lights are functional and correct for this 1968 Model.

Interior
Black bucket front seats covered in vinyl, and a rear bench seat are in good condition. Black carpeting covers all floor surfaces and just like the seats, headliner and door panels they are virtually new. The original steering wheel frames 2 deep round gauge clusters on the dash. A black headliner is tear and blemish free. Door panels are new vinyl covering, and pull handles show no cracks or tears. Sitting in the middle of the hump is a B&M shifter.

Drivetrain
The 350ci V8 bathed in beautiful orange for the block and Edelbrock valve covers looks just wonderful in the restored engine bay. This block is circa 1972 to 1974 and has Camelback heads bolted to it. A 4-barrel carburetor is on top is protected by more orange in the form of a metal air cleaner cover. A 3-speed TH400 transmission with a 2400 Stall Converter, the B&M shifter and reverse valve body work to push power rearward to a 12-bolt 3.55 posi rear axle.

Undercarriage
All very clean with no road dirt everything appears as it has just rolled out of the showroom. Independent coil springs for the front and leaf springs for the rear, and power drum brakes on the front and rear.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and a bit of time to warm up, and we were off to the test track. This car has Jesus bar grabbing acceleration, decent handling, and good brakes. We noticed the heater blower and the horn did not operate, and as seen in the photos, there is no radio installed. The interior was very nice and smells new!

With some modifications, a clean engine bay, new interior, and stunning undercarriage this is a goer and a shower. Great color and new vinyl for the top, and we might as well be in the showroom at the local Chevrolet dealer and it is 1968, or at least looking like it.
