Black Cherry 2 Stage/Olds 455 Mill/Retro Interior/Snazzy Oak Bed
1965 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
1965 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
Chevrolet abandoned 1950s styling in a big way in 1960, when it introduced the C/K series pickup trucks. The 1960 to 1965 models were leaner, more sculpted, roomier and offered more power than the previous generation. The C/K series styling was so popular that the basic design remained through the end of its production run in 1997. By 1963, one out of every three pickups were a Chevy. In 1963 alone, 483,119 Chevy trucks left the factory.
For consignment a neatly restored C10 Stepside short bed 1/2 ton Pickup. This truck is truly all right when it comes to straight steel, tinted windows, and a neat-o bed. Not to mention the surprise under the hood (think 455 cubes of Oldsmobile power) and your grandmothers couch for a seat inside. These trucks are still wildly popular especially one in this condition, so if interested or you just want to be fascinated...read on!
Exterior
Uber straight all steel panels which nearly perfectly mind their gaps and alignment, are all bathed and spit shined with deep Black Cherry 2 stage paint. You need to look very closely at the paint, as it is a really good job, and the viewer could nearly be tempted to dive in it is that deep under good lighting. Chrome is excellent, badging all correct and the cab windows have been tinted. A beautiful white oak with a nice warm tint lines the pristine bed, along with the mounting stretchers that are polished stainless. It looks perfect with the Black Cherry so much so, I wanted to get in and just ride in the bed...and I did for our test drive! The corners are topped off with deep dish polished chrome steel rims and dog dish moon style caps.
Interior
Keeping up with the utilitarian appearances, the door panels are also covered in Black Cherry and are all straight steel. Door handles and cranks as well as a small armrest, float in this sea of Black Cherry metal. Noted are wing windows and all rubber seals are near perfect and new. Looking inside more Black Cherry abounds with the dash sprayed in this exterior matching color. An original and very clean dash front has some extra gauges imbedded behind the glass, and a Bosch tachometer on the steering column. At the front of that column is a wood wrapped billet style rally steering wheel with height adjustment. Fronting the dash is a tweed tufted and buttoned backed, and tuck and roll bench seat in light gray. Near perfect preserved dark gray carpet floods the floors. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD player has been neatly installed into the original metal dash front.
Drivetrain
Ok I'll reveal the surprise with the pop of the large hood...drumroll please...a 455 cubic inch Oldsmobile block complete with a Summit Racing 4-barrel carburetor, and an Edelbrock intake manifold stares you down. With its gorgeous orangish red block and intake, and the chromed smatterings of Edlebrock valve covers, and the air cleaner, you will be able to look a good long time. A Th400 3-speed automatic transmission has been strapped to the back of the Olds mill and throws power back to a 12 bolt rear.
Undercarriage
Independent coil springs in front, a Unisteer power rack and pinion steering setup, and coil spring suspension on the rear, this truck will float like a butterfly down the road. As expected, I would dare you to find any rust, just black structural steel all buttoned up and just right baby bear. Power disc brakes in front and power drums on the rear, and a shiny Flowmaster exhaust add to the fascination underneath.
Drive-Ability
As noted, I was in the back for the test, and our test driver took it easy on me for fear of him having to write these descriptions himself! The truck fired right up with a melodious sound and drove extremely smoothly for riding in the bed of it. The test driver noted that is steered very smoothly and had a nice comfortable ride in the cab. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I was happy upon our return to be unmarred cargo. I guess I'll be called upon to write the next one!
Just a beautiful job on this restoration with tasteful color, some chrome bling added, a gorgeous bed, and a hot engine, not to mention the couch bench seat, and we are in C10 heaven. Don't miss this one even if you are only half interested as it will get picked quickly because it is truly black cherry ripe.
