1968 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

1968 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

The Chevrolet C10 designation can be confusing at times, with the C-10, C-20, C-30, and then the line of K designations to throw in as well. The difference being between C & K is C is 2-wheel drive, and K is 4-wheel drive. The numerical designation denotes weight maximum. 10 is 1/2 ton, 20 is 3/4 ton, and 30 is 1 ton.

For consignment a C10 (1/2 ton) step side long bed pickup truck, with some liberties taken in the form of straying from the original...slightly.

Exterior
With its front bumper shaved, and virtually all trim removed save for the grille and mirrors and door handles this truck assumes a cleaner look. A cowl induction hood has been added and rear bumper in chrome and in good condition has been retained. Otherwise we see nice red paint draping the exterior. Taillights have morphed into small vertical odalisque spears and keep up the clean line while flanking the tailgate. Lowering it reveals some work in the form of a new bed floor in nice white oak hardwood held together by chromed straps. If it ever carried anything since the restoration, it was definitely covered to do so as it presents immaculate. Dynamax side exhaust with headers can be seen exiting out the sides and 6 spoke Vision Legend Series wheels in shiny chrome finish are on all 4 corners of this truck.

Interior
A hint of beige in vinyl tuck and roll material covers the bench seat that stretches from door to door. Speaking of which are also covered in horizontal ribbed light beige vinyl and sport an exterior matching red top rail. The red metal continues to the dash, where an odd white painted metal panel houses the original instrument cluster, that has a water and a volt gauge added within. The original steering wheel fronts this cluster and has the shifter on the tree. Black carpet in very nice condition covers the simple floors, and red sprayed metal is the headliner, if you will.

Drivetrain
A tastefully blinged 350ci crate engine is shoehorned into a beautifully restored engine bay. It is topped with a 4-barrel Holley carburetor and is backed by a 3-speed manual Saginaw transmission. A 12-bolt brings up the rear and puts power out to the Bridgestone Dueler rubber.

Undercarriage
One has to love the extra effort these restorers put in when they take the frame off of the truck, then do the restoration. Absolutely clean and rust-free underneath. with independent coil springs up front and coil springs on the back. Drum brakes are all around as well.

Drive-Ability
Upon startup you are met with a snarl in the form of that 350 lighting and with a consigner stated 330hp. Taking it through the paces we quickly realized this truck is no fooling around, and with those Dueler tires, it has good cornering. Great acceleration, and an overall smooth runner and shifter. Oh, we dared not put anything in the bed!

An obvious labor of love in the restoration of this truck, with its great paint, and sexy un-marred utilitarian interior, it can give you a kick in the seat of your pants to boot. Just like a valentine in red, stop by and see if you will fall in love like we did. 1968 like it was yesterday, and possibly a budding romance.
