1990 Chevrolet Beretta Indy Interior Package
Unexpectedly, bought this car from a friend, whom he and his Mrs. bought brand new, off the showroom in 1990. These original owners took EXCELLENT care of it. Garaged its whole 29 years, and the interior shows it. The original paint has held up very well. Moving home to their home state, the owners didn't want to take it with them, because it had quit running, last year. A previous "diagnosis" indicated no fuel pressure. I drove from FL to NC, round trip and brought it home on a trailer. A preliminary test myself, confirmed power to the fuel tank, but no fuel pump noise. With a lift at home, dropped the tank, and replaced the fuel pump, with a NOS factory AC Delco pump. Disposed of the old gas and added 5 gallons of fresh fuel after reinstalling the tank. Primed the pump at the fuel rail, and it fired right up. A little reluctant at first, but after the initial warm up, it obviously improved. Took a road test, and this car has great power. The manual 5 speed shifts great, with a very good clutch. Noticed the digital dash, after the road test and a long idle for confirmation, had everything working... but the fuel gauge showed full. Knew that wasn't right, because of what was added. Then, after researching, I found a NEW tank sending unit and the following weekend, dropped the tank again, and replaced the float assembly. Installed the new pump and filter in the new float assembly and reinstalled the tank. That FIXED the dash gauge. It IS correct. On the road test, I noticed a slight "klunk" when shifting gears. From a lifetime experience, I already know, a FWD vehicle with 140,000 miles on it, the rubber trans axle mount has some wear, creating excessive movement during shifts, ESPECIALLY in a manual shift transmission. This is very common in FWD vehicles, but THIS is the "klunk", and another easy fix. I'll fix it. However, with that being said, this is all I found wrong with the car. No oil leaks, and no overheating issues. A NICE record of the car's maint history came with the car. Never wrecked, and even the AM/FM radio works (haven't tried the cassette yet), as does the A/C (could stand maybe a 1/2 can charge). The cool thing is, the INDY stripe kit. The GM factory installed "Baretta INDY" door decals are still intact, but the BONUS, larger door and fender decals that came with the car new are included. Those are PRICELESS. The "Baretta" in yellow across the top of the windshield was part of this VERY rare decal set and the original owners installed it right after their purchase. According to the 1990 Indy Pace car history while surfing the internet, there were just 3 real pace cars built.. all custom made convertibles. That project was such a disaster, none were ever sold to the public. So, GM stepped up to save the "market", and there were 6000, factory GM Baretta GT INDY Pace Car replicas produced out of the Chevy Baretta GT package, all being coupes. 4500 of those were in a teal color. Only 1500 were out of the factory were sent to the dealerships in a "Tweetie Bird" yellow. And what makes THIS "yellow bird" even more rare, it has a factory sun roof. Included in the trunk is the mint condition black vinyl sunroof bag. The yellow highlighted wheels are factory installed as part of the package. Also included, are the EXTREMELY rare parts catalog pages printed on factory GM yellow paper, for the Chevy Dealership Parts Departments, who needed to look up parts related to the Baretta Indy package cars ONLY. These would be easy to find in a long row of green books on the GM parts counter. (There were no PC catalogs for a few more years.) This car, of course has minor scuffs in the original paint, as it has always been a "driver" up until a decade ago, but a well taken care of "driver". Many of these scuffs will come out with a good, old fashion HAND wax. The pics of this car, capitalize on just how well the original owner took care of it. It is just one professional detail short of being superb. I drove it to the gas station, and added more fuel. It's already a head turner. I personally, am a Ford guy, but I bought the car, just because I knew how rare it was. I was working at my hometown Chevy dealer as a Service Adviser back in 1990, and we got the teal version to our dealership back then. It did not have a sun roof. I have priced this car at a VERY fair starting bid. It has never been smoked in either. It really is, a NICE car, for what it is. I am officially, the second owner with a clear FL title. I DID make a copy of the previous owner's NC title for the record folder, which matches the new car, 1990 information. It includes the original new purchase paperwork, and original window sticker ( in pic). The owners were from WI at the time of purchase, but the car never suffered an external winter there. I could see THAT, when I had it on my lift working on the fuel pump. All the documentation is here, including the owner's manual, new car warranty and cards, and showroom pamphlets. This car has a WELL documented paper trail. The car is covered by Hagarty Insurance. They did cover it on my policy with my other vehicles, because it is so unique. Thanks for looking.Buyer is responsible for pickup. $500.00 deposit required immediately on a BIN purchase. Payment must be paid in full within 48 hours of auction's end. Prefer cash, certified bank check. Funds must clear before the car is released.
