They say vintage Boogie Vans are HOT HOT HOT right now. With that in mind, we've decided it's maybe a good time to part with our ours.
Being"boogied" back during the disco era in 1977, when it was new, this van is pure to the form, and true vintage.
There are special touches all throughout this van, some sought after by collectors. The windshield visor, hood, wheel flares, and air dam are all pieces made by the'70's famous J-&-J Van Fiberglass. As aside topic, I understand the original J-&-J moulds have recently been purchased by someone and will be built again. The pieces on this van however are not reproductions.... These are true period correct originals!
There was an offer from a collector, of $2,000 for only the hood from this van and, another of $2,000 for just the visor.
Please note: This van has AIR CONDITIONING
Now, we've never shown this van. I've wanted to add a few more touches, perhaps in the form of some custom 70'smotif stripes along the body line, perhaps some hand pin striping, and a logo done in some groovy or funky disco font with some silver, red, and dazzling gold leaf. I think that would be the cherry on the sundae of this amazing unit. It would really really set it off. But, I couldn't narrow down my choices. Some choices were to pay homage to the (in)famous Wild Cherry van (please google Wild Cherry Van, if you don't know) by calling this the "Black Cherry"(that was my #1 choice), perhaps going a different route and using the Van Halen logo but as Van Haulin', maybe even something a bit funkier. I even spoke with the graphics company that outfitted mywife's company vehicles with standard business stuff. They were excited at the premise of having fun with this otherwise blank slate. As excited as I was, I couldn't narrow down my choices to just one.
As fans of shiny paint and chrome, we attend maybe one or two shows a year. We don't normally bring any of our cars (although we have a small collection) but we've sometimes seen a boogie van being exhibited. Every time, we've been astounded and marvelled at what a crowd of smiling happy onlookers they draw. I'd looked forward to seeing the reaction this van would cause.
This history of this van is somewhat vague but we know it was put away a long time ago; after which it sat for ages undisturbed. At some point, it was discovered and that eventually, through a series of turns, led to our purchase. It was stored for so long in fact that, it could no longer could even be looked up on the DMV's registry. Because of this, we know the van was stored away since at least sometime in the 1980's. Normally, vehicles disappear from the system after 25-30 years. To re-enter the system and be recognized, a vehicle has to go thorough an intense inspection process. The criteria is nothing short of that of a new vehicle being registered for the first time. As such, you can rest assured, this van runs, drives, and functions exactly as should. Some of the new items include, but are not limited to: Shocks, 2" lowering springs, wheel bearings, brakes, custom exhaust, lighting, indicators, seals, gaskets, and on and on. Rest assured, this van runs and drives EXCELLENT. The custom suspension makes it handle incredible for a van. It's astonishing in fact.
I would imagine that this was originally built and used for show but, that's not for sure. There's an outstanding amount of detail and custom work here. We've tried a little to research this but with no substantiation, I'm just left to presume that it was a show van. My guess is that it after it's tenure as a such, perhaps when they lost their"cool" in the early'80's along with disco, it was just parked aside with low mileage. Now with the huge popularity of anything "pop culture", it's en vogue again. There's some amazing work done here such as the hydraulic lift gull-wing side door (just like"Wild Cherryâ€) and the filled-and-smoothed rear doors.
The interior was evidently done up in achauffeured limousine styling influence. There is lengthwise seating, plenty vinyl tufting, storage, and ice buckets for champagne. The rear part is in decent enough shape and the front seats are amongst the highest quality I've ever seen but, the front headliner material was removed. The backing is still in place. The hardwood floor is nice but, my preference would be replacement with a deep tufted luxury carpet in either white or bright red. I think that would look absolutely, well....... Super Groovy! LOL
So,whether you're part of the trend, looking for a great road-tripping machine, wanting to get into the show circuit, or looking for a FANTASTIC BRANDING AND ADVERTISING MEDIUM FOR YOUR BUSINESS....(think tax write-off) Here you go everyone!
We couldn't price this van. It's just not typical as anything we've seen on eBay for drawingcomparisons; nor does it need the work most of them require. Add some personalized stripes and logos and, voila... It's done to your tastes/preferences. You could turn it into a Kiss Van (imagine Gene Simmons platform boots and lasers shooting from Ace Frehley's guitar), OR a Star Wars theme, or murals of Pirate Ships in a tropical harbour at dusk, Vikings with red-dot led's for eyes, add some turbine rims and make it an A-Team van, murals of a ample-chested warrior babe in animal print holding a sword with a snake wrapped around one leg, even done to the likeness of your wife or girlfriend, (or one on either side)....LOL whatever you choose. Have some fun!!!
In any regard..... We know thesethings are a commodity and hot collectible right now so, we're not even going to start guessing how to price it. In fact, we're leaving it to your hands. I think we're comfortable enough that we'relisting UNRESERVED.
Details etc...... As stated, this van is being soldUNRESERVED. Starting price is 250 dollars. Asides from helping arrange your shipping, I have no time to take 99 more pictures, or have 2-hour long conversations. Questions from genuine buyers are welcome and I will try my best. I won't be taking any additional pictures so please don't ask. We lost some pictures in the transfer from phone-to-phone-to computer and now the van is back in storage. I won't be taking any more. It's unreserved and starting at 250 dollars. If you know what you are looking at, you know what it is and can see my description is an honest one as can be. It's probably a misnomer to say I don't care about price, but I am knowingly sacrificing dollars to put more emphasis on a hassle-free and quick sale. As such, I am not going to get into long drawn out discussions as to whether it's a 5/10 condition, or 8/10. Let's just call this a 1/10. Perspectives vary so, for ease of sale, please disregard everything else and assume this Chevy Van is an awful wreck salvage-value project vehicle that is needing everything. My goal is to avoid insincere and zero-feedback bidders who will not follow through with their commitment. My other goal is to find somebody genuine, who will really appreciate how much fun they will have with a boogie van like this.
Also, very important....review our feedback please.....Each is for a 40+ year old vehicle!
During our relatively short tenure on eBay, we've figured out2 very important things arecommunicationandprocedure. We have a little procedure. Our little procedure focuses on communication. It goes as follows:
- After auction, we ask for your buyer's information.
- You supply.
- We fill in transfer papers and scan/send to you.
- You confirm spelling and information correct.
- You go to your bank, and send funds.
- We validate receipt.
- We begin on shipping,
- ...keeping you informed every step..
- You receive your classic Show Van.
- You leave us another fabulous feedback,
DELIVERY:...to most states and destinations is in the $1500+ range. Please keep that in mind. Budget for at least this amount. Texas and Florida, and other far southeastern states, are obviously a bit more at minimum $2250-ish. Any required inspections, certifications, registrations, paperwork, or anything else are the buyer's responsibility. I don't know the rules in each particular state so, am selling as per Alberta rules. My wife has become pretty good at setting up shipping and, is happy to assist. Rest is up to you. Payment is by bank transfer, US account to US account. As stated, I don't ask for Paypal. Once payment is received, everything else is ready to proceed from there. I believe putting this car unreserved will easily make up for any shipping costs. Somebody is likely to get a heck of a deal.
PICKUP:....not really recommended. See our procedure. I'll elaborate. It's a nearly 40 year old van. I can't be responsible for everything. Even though it's recently passed elaborate inspection and is fine currently, old vehicles are unpredictable by nature. I'm not the seller that'll tell you that I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country. Iâ€m not, and I won't say that. I just simply will not risk someone being unhappy.
CALLS:If you'd like to speak over the phone, I'm happy to hear from you. Please write and we'll make arrangements.
If you are fromOVERSEAS,please know we have shipped long distances several times. We are happy to assist. Since beginning to narrow down ourinadvertent collection a couple years ago, we've sold to England, France, Germany, Holland, Slovenia, as well as theMiddle East and New Zealand. If it says anything about what kind of sellers we are... We have sold 6 (six !!) to one gentleman alone in Holland, 2 to another, and 2 to one fellow in England.
And, well...... Ibelieve that covers everything.
*** Kindestregards ***HAVE FUN,good luck,and HAPPY BIDDING!!!
