Street Racer Rollcage 454ci V8/4 Barrel Carburetor TH400 Auto Trans
1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
Street racing is typically an unsanctioned and illegal form of auto racing that occurs on a public road. Racing in the streets is an ancient hazard, as horse racing occurred on streets for centuries, and street racing of automobiles is as old as the automobile itself. But it became especially prevalent during the heyday of hot rodding and muscle cars, and it continues to be both popular and hazardous. A Pottstown or Potts Race - When two cars drag race through two or more traffic lights until the losing car stops at a traffic signal. This was popular in the 1980's in the town of Pottstown, Pennsylvania until the borough reduced commonly used streets to a single lane in an effort to deter the practice.
Pay attention for the arm drop as this street racing version of the Camaro SS is lined up, revved and ready to race. A powerful engine roll bar equipped, and totally stripped from the original Camaro, it may be successful in doing so at it pertains to street racing. Fill your squeeze bottle, do a back tire stage, and await the flashlight...here we GO!
Exterior
Straight steel panels are covered in Copper paint. Paint shows some blotchiness, and age, but no rust. A huge hood scoop is on, front bumper is shaved, and exterior stripped of most badging. Chromed Weld billet style wheels with small front drag tires, and large rear slicks are seen on this car. Chrome drip moldings, window surrounds, and bumper on the rear are in good condition.
Interior
Made for the serious street racer, devoid of any of its original seating, and most of the dash, a complete roll cage has been installed, and a single M&R racing seat with 3-point belts sits in front of the steering wheel. From this seat the pilot can monitor Water Temp, Fuel Pressure, Volts, and Oil Pressure by looking out the windshield, and into the rearward facing hood scoop. A top of dash mounted Tachometer with shift light is seen hovering above the steering wheel, and plenty of toggle switches replace any conveniences on the mid dash. A B & M Shifter sits next to the seat. Headliner is ripped on one seam, but it did not affect the performance of this car one iota!
Drivetrain
A work of automotive engine art, this nice 454ci V8 with a single 4-barrel carburetor sits atop, sans air cleaner, and has a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission attached. This pushes power to the 10-bolt rear. A Pro Cool fan less radiator sits right upfront the mill.
Undercarriage
Modified for racing, no rust, some patina, but overall solid and sturdy. Independent front suspension, and ladder bar rear is installed, replacing the original. Heavy duty drum brakes are all around. Also noted is a fuel cell in the trunk and the battery has been relocated there as well.
Light it up, stoke the fire, and kids, let's go racing. I'll press the gas pedal, while you monitor the Police Band radio, and your friend can do the arm drop, and we're off!
