1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Over the past 105 years, Chevrolet has built such a vast empire of lovable offerings that some of them just seem to get overlooked. Possibly the most substantial victim of that unfortunate phenomenon is the storied Monte Carlo. Introduced in 1970, and proudly parked in over half a million driveways during its first three years of production, the brand's 'personal luxury coupe' was decidedly cool. And, not as ostentatious as a Corvette or as boorish as a Camaro, the car spent most of its life as the poster child for evolving automotive tastes.

For consignment, a solid driver that consigner states needs some restoration to bring it back, which upon studying the photos, seems like some body panel rust, chrome trim and brite work reattached, and weatherstripping issues.

Exterior
Various areas of surface rust including some bubbling, chipping of paint, and invasive rust can be noted virtually all over this car, however all is not lost due to the fact it was resprayed 10 years ago in its current color a light green. Some work was done at that time, but now the rusting has advanced where trim will need to be removed, and body panels carefully taken apart and gone over. The vinyl top was removed during the respray time. Since the respray, some small bubbling has occurred at various points throughout the exterior of this car, particularly on the hood. Original dish wheels with machined center hubs are on all 4 corners.

Interior
A black stitched and vertical ribbed split bench seat in front and a rear bench of the same pattern make up the passenger compartment. Seats are in overall good condition, with no rips or tears, and consigner states they were recovered. A new dash pad which is not fully installed, frames the original wood grain dash with instrument cluster containing original gauges. Headliner needs install finished, A/C is inoperable, aftermarket radio does not work, and dome light and rearview bracket need completed.

Drivetrain
The 350ci V8 is installed and shows some corrosion and surface rust. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and manifold have been put on top. An HEI ignition is noted installed. Original automatic transmission remains on the car.

Undercarriage
A thorough coating of surface rust is seen underneath on all steel parts (driveshaft, suspension, rocker areas) however does not appear to be invasive or affecting structural integrity. Consigner states there is an exhaust leak. Floorpans and toe kicks are in fair condition.

This first edition Monte Carlo needs some TLC on the cosmetic front. Not terrible condition, but only to be taken on for someone not of the faint of heart. It's all there, just needs to be cleaned and fixed, and you will have a not perfect, but good looking car that could be your daily driver and head turner!
