Description:

1961 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1961 Corvette convertible is equipped with a very stout 350 cubic inch V8, a fresh Borg Warner Super T10 with a Hurst Super Comp shifter and a 3:55 posi. Fuel is supplied through a 750 Holley dual feed double pumper with mechanical secondaries and no choke. Compression is right at 10:1. It runs on premium (91 octane) fuel just fine. It starts easy and needs only a minute to warm up where it will idle (850-900rpm). Exhaust exits through coated long tube headers to 40 Series Flowmasters with dumps just behind the rear axle. You will not be able to sneak this one into the garage late at night without waking up the kids. It has a very aggressive sound and the performance to go along with it. You can get into the throttle in second gear and smoke the tires.
Steering and brakes are of the original type. Brakes were rebuilt last year. The car stops better than expected. The oversize radials and undersized steering wheel makes the steering feel heavy. Slow speed tight turns require quite a bit of effort.
The dash pad and carpets were replaced last year. At that time the gauges where all cleaned and calibrated and the housing refinished. The seat covers and door panels are very nice and appear as original. The original Wonder Bar is long gone. In its place is a 100 watt AM/FM stereo supplying sound to a dual cone speaker mounted in the dash like the original. You can clearly hear the radio if you want to.
The body is very straight and solid. Under just the right light (in doors) you can see a very faint line on the top of the left fender where there has been a repair over the left front wheel. The rest of the body panels appear as original. The chrome and shiny parts aren't perfect but very nice. This car is better than a 10 footer. I would consider this an exceptional driver "hot rod" style vintage Corvette.
The frame is solid and straight with indications of prior collision or rust repair. This car came from southern Missouri and was owned by one family from the 70's until just last year.
The soft top is in very nice shape. It appears to have been replaced in the last 5 years.
