History: I purchased it from an owner who had over 60 vettes in a collection about 8 years ago. I have probably driven less than 100 miles per year in my ownership. It has been started periodically and have kept fuel treatment in the tank to help keep the gas from going bad. New battery a few years ago, and it is maintained on a battery tender. New, brand name $1000 tire set about a year ago, less than 200 miles on them. There are a few things that need attention to make this car factory showroom perfect, but they do not detract from the usability of the car: The "Door Ajar" dash light is on full time. One of the two door pin switches is not working properly, probably a $5 part to fix. Radio head unit has started to go bad, it works for a while then goes to mostly static. The Bose amp speakers seem to be fine (a common problem in 4th Gen Vettes). I will let the new owner decide to keep it stock or modify it for aftermarket. I did not want to chop up the dash to fit an aftermarket unit in just in case the next owner wants to keep it OEM. I think you can upgrade to newer year Bose unit with CD that slides right in. A/C does not work at the moment due to a plastic wire connector on the A/C compressor that broke in half. The A/C was cold last summer before this ageing plastic connector came apart. I think the A/C still has refrigerant in it, just need to fix the electrical that controls the A/C compressor. I have not had time to diagnose it, but visually looking at it the connector is crumbling in to tiny pieces for whatever reason. This was not GM's finest era of plastics, there are a few plastic trim pieces that are cracked, like the fog vent covers on the door edges. Rubber window swipes on the doors are missing rubber in a couple places. Over all, I think these are pretty easy fixes. Just a few minor things you can just live with or fix to get it back in to perfect shape. I believe the brakes are original from 1989, and I think the fronts are near needing replacement as I think I hear the warning tab squeak occasionally (not all the time yet), but it still stops great and straight. It is probably time for a brake flush anyway. I think everything else is in working order. There may be minor things I did not notice because I rarely am in this car, but there is nothing that sticks out as not being "almost new." I am pretty crazy for selling this, but I need room.
- Nice paint. I believe it is original, except I assume previous owner had the ground effects painted or blended to match. It is not perfect new paint, but it is really really good for a car that is 30 years old. It has been garaged most, if not all of its life. Under my ownership, it was garaged and under a soft cover.
- It has a Greenwood style ground effects and Rear Wing. This really dresses up the car.
- Near new tires with very few miles. They are good, but I have noticed they do flat-spot if let sit for a month. If this happens, a 5 mile drive to get heat and shape back into them usually makes them like new.
- Leather seats are good for the age. When I purchased it, the drivers bottom seat cushion had just been recovered. I was told a mechanic sat in the seat with a tool in their back pocket, damaging the original.
- New "balanced" and higher flow Fuel Injectors a couple years ago to get it to pass emissions. The originals were leaking into the cylinders.
- Customized intake plenum paint, and black coated runners.
- Carpet is good.
- Glass is good.
- Windows operate.
- Chrome "saw-tooth" wheels are in good condition. Not perfect, but not bad. Chrome is holding up well and tires have held air pressure for years.
- Has a "smoked" transparent top with a padded, insulated cloth sun-shield insert.
- Lights work. Headlights flip up like new. Probably have less than 10 operations on the gears in the last decade.
- Custom sports steering wheel. It feels much better than stock and still retains tilt functions.
- Engine sounds just like they did in 1989.
- Automatic transmission is smooth.
- Almost everything is original and still in great condition. Many parts still have the factory stickers, etc.
- Like most older chevys, it does drop a little bit of oil. Parked for a month, my drip pan has a drop about the size of a quarter. Not sure where from. I keep fluids topped off.
- I have more cars than I can take care of, and multiple Vettes. My investment in this dream car now can become a great opportunity for you.
- I am listing it at less than 1/2 the price I paid for it.
- 1989 was last year of the classic notched rear bumper (not the fat rounded version in later years), L98 TPI engine and the high-tech digital dash.
- This is a great example of a C4 that has not been abused, raced, or destroyed by hard use. This is coming out of a time vault! I rarely drive it, occasionally to work on a holiday, or around the block 4 miles about once a month just to keep it lubed up.
- I was told when I bought it, that it has been in Arizona for much, if not its entire life.
- Cheap to insure because it is a 30 year old classic now!
Ask any and all questions before bidding. It is your responsibility to know what you are buying and are happy with the decision. Inspection in person is welcome, but by appointment only because I work most days. I have tried to list an accurate description of the condition of the car, but there may be little things here and there that are not perfect because it is not a brand new car. As with any used vehicle, especially one that is a 30 year old classic, it is sold AS-IS, no warranties or conditions promised, expressed or implied. Please inspect the pictures, read my listing and watch my youtube videos carefully to see the overall condition and make sure that it will be what you expect.
Bid only if you can meet these simple terms:
- Buyer to use Paypal for an immediate $250 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit.
- Buyer to pay full balance of the purchase price by cash in person at my bank, or by mail with a Cashiers check, or bank wire transfer. FULL PAYMENT MUST BE MADE WITHIN SEVEN (7) calendar days of the purchase date.
- Once my bank says your payment is good, I will hand you the signed and notarized, clear title if you are in person, or ship it with a bill of sale by overnight/insured package to you.
- I will not release the vehicle or title to anyone until your funds have been approved and cleared at my bank.
- Buyer to make arrangements to pick up the vehicle from ZIP Code 85205 within 14 calendar days of eBay purchase date.
- I will work with your transport driver to get the vehicle loaded if you hire one. I will send you photos and update when it leaves my driveway.
- If you need more that 14 days for transport pickup, I can keep it stored covered and in a locked garage for $10/day after the initial 14 days.
- I reserve the right to cancel the auction for any reason before an offer has been accepted. This could be for reasons like errors in the listing, changing my mind because it is such a nice car (pretty likely I may just keep it), or if I end up selling the car locally.
