1966 Chevrolet Corvette Restomod

Even at a glance you can tell this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette is no ordinary resto-mod. In 2006 the restorers took a 427 car and swapped in a fuel-injected 454, a quick-shifting 6-speed manual, and finished off the frame off-restoration that resulted in this attention-grabbing C2. The way this car fits together, there isn't much doubt that it has always been a well-enjoyed car. The doors fit well and don't need a heavy slam to close, the fiberglass... shows no stress cracks or major repairs, and even though the Marlboro Maroon paint has seen some better days and could use some attention (the price reflects that), this is still a stunning car to see bolting down the thoroughfare. Most of the 'glass is stock Chevrolet, including that awesome original big-block "stinger" hood, and the result is aggressive, functional, and sure to generate a ton of conversation at the next show. All the original styling cues are still in place, ranging from the folding headlights to the ribbed rocker panel trim to the split bumpers that are newer and shine up very well. Original badges and emblems reinforce the fact that this Corvette is more of an evolution of the factory look rather than a total remake, although the overall vibe is far more predatory than any original. Perfect it is not, but with some added effort into the paint or a full respray (which is what something this beautiful really deserves), this C2 will be back to a six-figure show-stopper in an instant. The makeover given to the interior pulls the 50-year-old 'Vette firmly into the 21st century. New black vinyl has been wrapped around the bucket seats, using stock-style patterns to pay respect to its roots. The door panels were crafted to match, and new black carpets anchor the interior nicely. A leather-wrapped billet steering wheel mounted on a tilt column and aftermarket digital gauges look fantastic from the driver's seat, and aside from the Hurst 6-speed shifter built inside the middle console, it feels close to stock when you're behind the wheel. You'll also note that this is an air-conditioned car, and the system has been upgraded with modern hardware behind it. A glance in back reveals that the C2 has plenty of room for stereo gear, and a sound bar full of speakers was mounted in that's controlled by the retro-sound AM/FM/AUX radio in the dash, mounted vertically to mimic the Wonderbar units of old. The interior presentation is very good and the cabin inside this resto-mod is truly a comfortable place to be on a Saturday night cruise Mechanically is where this Corvette steals the show, with a thumping 454 big block Chevrolet V8 (Dyno'd at 417.9 HP) under the hood that's topped with an electronic fuel injection setup. The show-off worthy engine bay is dressed up with aluminum valve covers and an original-style open-element air cleaner replete with 427 badges, and functionality is improved by an aluminum radiator and MSD ignition system. The Magnum 6-speed manual transmission was installed in 2017 along with a Spec bell housing, and it's framed by a long-tube header fed stainless steel dual exhaust system that provides a killer soundtrack for this resto-mod. It shifts great, with an easy clutch that replaces the usual ACL-busters of old, and it spins 3.55 posi gears in the rear end that allows for both laid-back highway cruising and red light-to-red light drag sessions. Just about everything under the car has been addressed, from the suspension to the gas tank and everything was detailed nicely. With power steering and four-wheel disc brakes, it rides and handles like a much more modern piece. Staggered Boyd Coddington wheels look like flashier vintage Torque Thrusts, and wear 225/50/17 front and 255/70/17 rear Kumho performance radials. Documented with an owner's manual, restoration photos, and maintenance records, this restomod Corvette is truly a special piece that could easily be kicked back up to a six-figure show car. For non-purists, this Sting Ray represents the pinnacle of C2 evolution. Call today!
