This 1972 example is the final year of the First generation Monte Carlos. In 1972 the line saw a drop of the "SS" designation with an addition of a "custom" package offered for one year only. This package included a special suspension and other items previously included with the SS package. The most significant update to the Monte Carlo was variable-ratio power steering, which became standard for the first time. Finally, the interior remained relatively unchanged from the previous year, other than the availability of all-vinyl upholstery with the standard bench seat in addition to the optional Strato bucket seats.
