1960 Chevy Impala Bubble Top

This car was purchased from California 7 years ago and under when a total restoration. This is one of my personal cars that doesn't get driven as often as it should so I'm offering it up for sale. The following is a top to bottom summary of the car in its completed state. All pictures were taken at the time this ad was written.

Body

The car body was completely disassembled prior to paint. The front fenders and floor were removed and replaced with stamped metal replacement parts. ( had to purchase a used set of front fenders from a yard in Arizona as no one re-pops them that we could find.)

Once all body work was completed all parts were jammed and back painted prior to assembly. The car is painted with Flats paint. All trim was cleaned and reinstalled where possible. (some new piece were purchase as required.

Interior

The complete interior and trunk of the car were redone. Small modifications were made to the dash to help integrate audio/NAV and AC system. We did not use the aftermarket seat covers or door skins. CustomCloth and leather skins were made for both the interior and trunk. The panels in the trunk cover the spare tire and jack and the air ride control system. (there is still enough room for a small family in the trunk)

Chassis

These cars have a very floaty or spongy ride. I wanted a more modern ride so we replaced the front suspension with tubular A-arms, upgraded the steering, and replaced the coil springs with air bags. We four linked the rear and added air bags. This not only improved the ride but also gave the car a great stance.

Drive Train

A 396 cc Chevy big block was rebuild and a 700r4 transmission purchase new and installed. For reliability we went with electronic ignition and carburetor style fuel injection system. Vintage AC was added to complete the package.

Wheels, Tires and Brakes

The wheels and tires on a custom car are one of the most visible changes you can make to the look and one of the easiest. We have chosen 18" Boss wheels with 225x40x18 low profile tires.

Brakes were upgrade to Bear disc's with drilled and slotted rotary in the front and new drum brakes in the rear. which really completes the drivability of the car over the stock drum brakes it came with.

Summary

I built this car as a driver. I wanted to be able to get on the highway and drive the car keeping up with traffic without being white knuckled. I think we accomplished that nicely. The only thing I would change is the crank windows. I don't know why we didn't convert them to power windows. The cars not cheap but is being offer for much, much lease than I have into it.
