I am selling this car for my old friend Alex. I know and love this car myself and I was part of the team bringing the engine back to life a couple of weeks ago. Alex and I will team up to answer all the questions, but I'd like Alex to describe the car to you in his own words:
"This car is legitimate barn find right in the middle of Los Angeles! This is a second owner, family owned, since new, car. The original owner, my mother, purchased the car new in 1971. I took over the car after her passing 25 years ago. The car originally came with a 307, which was somewhat underpowered and in need of rebuild. Rather than sinking the money into rebuilding the 307, I opted to to pull it out, drop in a 350 it and build myself hot rod.
The new engine was installed in 1998 and ran with little issue until it was parked in 2001. The issue that parked the car is, at best, stereotypical. The engine started running hot and after, albeit, initially diagnosing the issue as a bad radiator, it seemed evident that its the the water pump. The radiator was swapped, however the engine temps did not come down to an acceptable level. At the time this was happening, I'd changed jobs and was forced to park the car while transitioning into new job all the while muttering those infamous words . . . "I'll get to it next weekendâ€. Well, next weekend came and went and the car has sat relatively dormant until now.
We are moving into a new home and it's time for a new owner to make memories with it.
The car is now running and running well. Numerous precautions were taken prior to firing the engine, with proper lubricants applied to the valve train and pistons. After some dry cranking to build oil pressure, she fired right up! Oil pressure is solid and there was no lifter / rocker / piston ring issues. It sounds very healthy.
I want to reinforce that the car is running . . . but not drivable. All four tires are on 14" Rally Wheels the tires are old, brittle and in need of replacement. The thermostat housing on the engine also needs replacement. The old fuel is still in the fuel tank and upon inspection it was clear that the tank needs a fully professional draining and boiling out. The engine was fired with a remote tank and new fuel line.
So basically, with four new tires, a thermostat, a water pump and fresh fuel tank, you'll have a running, driving Hot Rod Camaro that you could take to a local car show or cruise night.
The body is straight and in good condition. The paint and vinyl top are in great shape. The car drives straight and the engine pulls hard. It's the perfect platform to modify further for pro touring, the drag strip or even weekend grocery getter. The car is exceptionally well positioned to go in any of those directions OR more!
Happy to answer questions for serious buyers."
