1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute
Around the Streetside showroom, we hear a lot of conversations, and those we hear about this 1968 Camaro SS Tribute lead us to believe that it won't last long. The paint is gorgeous, it's powered by a stout 402 cubic inch big block, and is the ideal cruiser to hit the shows this summer. You can't argue with this Camaro's stance, or the brutally effective Cyber Gray Metallic finish that is the perfect antidote to all the... Hugger Orange Camaros running around. Panel gaps are excellent and the paint is very slick, so you'll be proud to show it off. The clean look of the early Camaros is popular for a very good reason: it simply looks awesome. A cowl induction hood was installed before the respray, so the stripes could be painted on and out back a factory-style ducktail spoiler and blacked-out tail panel give it a proper high-performance look that accentuates the lowered stance. SS and 396 badges were added during the restoration, but this car has moved beyond factory stock and into the realm of high-end resto-mod, so it's hardly a demerit and everyone knows they look right. The front bumper was left off and the chin spoiler is pronounced, giving the front end of this 1st generation Camaro a very early 2nd generation "catfish" look. The rest of the chrome and brightwork is new and glistens beautifully up against the gray metallic paint, providing just enough flash for a modern look. Behind the wheel, there are no surprises. The seat covers are newer and closely replicate the factory pieces, and the handsome steering wheel is a modern wood-rimmed take on the original that looks exactly right here. The original gauges have been replaced in their factory dash slots by modern digital units, and the horseshoe shifter rests in the desirable center console that's accented with a handsome wood applique. Plush carpets give it a showroom fresh feel, the door panels match the great condition of the seats, and the dash is free of any cracks or warps from the hot sun. An AM/FM stereo fits in the original slot, so no dashboards were harmed in the making of this Camaro, and you'll note the aftermarket speakers in the kick panels, although the system could use some service. Check the trunk and you'll find that it's been sprayed with correct spatter paint, and has plenty of room for your luggage and some car show goodies. If you're looking for streetable horsepower, look no further than the 402 cubic inch V8 motor under the hood. With a Holley Street Avenger 4-barrel, HEI ignition system and some long-tube headers, it runs strong and sounds menacing. Professionally installed when this Camaro was built, it snarls and burbles at idle and at any point on the rev counter, just the way you'd expect and looks great doing it with black Chevrolet valve covers and a compact mesh air cleaner, along with the Chevy Orange block and aluminum intake manifold. Underneath, it's quite clean and was obviously built for combat, with a Magnaflow dual exhaust system with turn-downs ahead of the rear axle. The front-end suspension is new, including the bushings and control arms, and even all the body bushings were replaced with new stock as well. A capable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt out back make it a fantastic street car, not to mention a ride that behaves itself on the highway too. It rides on beautiful polished Torque Thrusts wearing new 225/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Nitto performance radials. Fast and well-executed, this '68 Camaro SS Tribute is a joy to drive and a legitimate threat on the street. Call today!
