This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro started life as a solid, show-worthy X66 396 V8 car with a Muncie 4-speed. Instead of starting a project with a pile of parts, renown Camaro builder Ronnie Caldwell decided to start with a show car, and make it even better! The results garnered the car multiple trophies and awards, including a coveted Super Chevy win at Palm Beach. The body on the car is exceptional, and shows less than a handful of minor, normal use blemishes acquired since its completion. The body was completely blown apart, and the unibody separated from the frame, and each piece was bead blasted down to bare metal before being prepared for paint and reassembly. The photo from the start of the build below show that the car was already a show-stopper in stock form, and the bead blasting revealed what the builder knew along... that it was solid and rust/rot free all the way around. There are NO bondo panels, NO chicken wire, NO porch screen, and NO beer cans in this body, just straight, solid, REAL steel!!! The chassis was completely stripped, blasted, and fit with essentially all new components from the front to the back. It was then treated to a high-gloss black finish. The 12 bolt Posi-Trac GM rear was loaded with Richmond 3.90 gears and hardened spline axles. It was finished in matte black paint after being bead blasted to bare metal. Wilwood was tapped for a full set of slotted and cross-drilled disc brakes with 6-piston calipers and a Hydratech power brake system which works perfectly, and brings the car down from speed with no pulling or excess fade. All lines were new throughout as well. All new body mounts, bushings, and fittings were used throughout. Up front, a new sway bar was installed, new bushings, new A-arms, new bump stops, new adjustable coil-over springs, new spindles, new pitman arm, and more. Everything in the front end is new. In the back, all new leaf springs, new spring perches, new shocks, and new hardware were put into place. New fuel tank, along with a new hi-flow fuel pump and braided stainless lines were installed. Every component, every nut and bolt, and everything related to the car is all new underneath, and shows incredibly well since the car has only been driven 1,087 miles since completion. The transmission is a new Richmond 6-speed, with a new custom balanced driveshaft. It shifts crisply and cleanly through each gear and is fully synchronized in the forward gears. Power for this beast is provided by a Mike Thompson Racing Engines built 454 that was bored .80 over to 496ci and is an absolute power making beast! Brodix heads, Mahle pistons, Mass Air PRO-M Electronic fuel injection system and wiring harness, custom fabricated air intake, Doug's headers, TRU-TRAC full serpentine belt system, and tons of chrome and polished goodies round things out under the hood, and it sits in an engine bay with a smoothed and painted firewall, original cowl tag, and fully finished and detailed panels all around. Chrome hood hinges, fender supports, and a custom aluminum radiator shroud rounds things out. The motor sits at 650hp on the Dyno, and puts down close to 600 ft lbs of torque at the rear end. It is an absolute JOY to drive this thing, and it feels so solid and tight you think you're driving a new car! Power comes on solid and sure in ALL gears, and it pulls relentlessly throughout the powerband. When driven with a modest foot, the car cruises through town with ease, and feels perfectly happy in mundane, stop and go traffic. Open it up on a back road or Interstate, and you better hang on! Things happen fast as the car powers through each gear, and the next thing you know, you're cruising at warp speed thanking the Man Upstairs you have those disc brakes to stop you! The sound is incredible, thanks to a custom fabricated 3" exhaust system with performance mufflers connected to those Doug's Headers. It is a clean rumble at idle, and barks like crazy under the go pedal. It doesn't run hot thanks to the massive hi-flow aluminum radiator, racing water pump, and massive electric cooling fan set up. Vintage air conditioning and climate control works wonderfully, and has been cleanly installed with custom routed lines to keep the engine bay as clean as possible. Same can be said for as much of the wiring and lines as they could possibly hide from view. It cruises the freeway at triple digits without so much as a shudder or a shake, brakes with pulling or fading, and handles like a modern version if itself on the curvy roads. It has driven from coast to coast in Florid and back, and has amassed 1,087 builder owned miles without incident or issue other than the typical break-in adjustments that have already been done. Interior is completely new, and is full leather and Ultrasuede throughout. The black finish is exceptionally soft and supper because it is REAL LEATHER, not vinyl, and it shows only the lightest patina high-quality leather gets from normal use. A full-length custom center console was made for the car, with a front storage cubby, and shift surround. Seats are custom cut versions of the originals, made to give more room without sacrificing comfort. Seat belts for 4 passengers are installed and functional. The headliner is finished in matching leather, and looks amazing. Dome light is functional. Factory A/C vents are new units in the stock locations, and controlled by a Vintage Air stock-style control panel. Glove box wasn't sacrificed for the A/C, so it is fully functional and lockable too! All of the gauges have been replaced with AutoMeter C2 digi-analog units that are in perfect working order, and monitor water temp, oil pressure, speedo/odometer, tach, fuel level, and volts. A separate pair of system specific gauges monitor air/fuel ratio perfectly, so you always know how the car is running. Tilt steering keeps everyone comfortable when driving, and the stock wheel and pedals look old-fashioned but are all new. A Kenwood audio system has iPod, CD/DVD, AM-FM, USB, Pandora, and Sirius XM capability along with touch screen ease, and a full array of custom hidden speakers and amps to let the music have a chance of being heard over the killer exhaust system. It comes to you complete with the receipts and documentation for over 80% of the build. It has been professionally assembled with all-new parts from the ground up, and started with a solid, show-quality car as the base. It also comes with a built-in charging system that is hard-wired to the battery and can be easily plugged into a standard outlet to maintain battery life while in storage.
