1969 Chevrolet Camaro

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Pace Car Z11 Convertible is an iconic collectible classic first generation Camaro, striking in its unique color combination of Ermine White striped in Hugger Orange paired with DeLuxe Orange/Black Houndstooth interior. They were all built as RS/SS cars but many choices in drivetrain options led to some common and ultra rare combinations. Here we have the latter, a very rare L78 396-375hp version mated up to the heavy duty M22 4speed and the 3:31 positraction code BS rear end. Seldom seen is the L78-M22 Pace Car but even rarer is one that retains today its correct matching number drivetrain as this one does. It only gets better that this Camaro convertible is one of the nicest rust and damage free bodies we have ever seen.We recently obtained this very special Camaro from the estate of a well known classic Camaro collector from Southern California who had made good headway doing a very high end restoration as this car deserves. The mechanicals are all totally rebuilt to stock specifications. Motor has not been run since total rebuild. M22 trans is also rebuilt as is the Camaro 12-bolt rear end, all numbers matching to this car. Cylinder heads and intake are correct dated components matching the rest of the car. Original untampered with original Trim Tag designating Z11 and VIN tag are in place. Hidden VIN on cowl has been viewed and is correct. Engine block and M22 transmission case are VIN stamped correct to the car. Please note the original hi-horse tachometer is in place. Also the 396, 4speed hi-capacity radiator with properly date coded original tag is in place. There are missing parts from this car from this estate purchase which we could not find. They are: carburetor, distributor, air cleaner, pulleys, fan assy, fan shroud, exhaust manifolds, shifter, radio, door panels, headlamp vacuum actuators, alternator and water pump. A new exhaust system will need to be procured. Car does have a tilt steering column. The body appears to have new GM quarter panels installed professionally, a very nice job. Also a pair of NOS GM fenders are in place. Floors and trunk pan are mint, mint, mint. Entire body is in epoxy primer ready for finish work prior to paint. Underside is totally restored, properly painted, plated fasteners, rebuilt subframe and suspension, etc. It appears he was shooting to have a show quality car, bottom side is spectacular.Car needs complete interior and top and all weatherstripping. Original dash pad is surprisingly very nice, not mint. Window glass is all in place, original to the car we believe. This is a very worthwhile project to complete to end up with the '69 Pace Car of this level. The hardest work is done and finishing from here is not truly that difficult of a challenge. We have decided to offer the car in this condition, just as we purchased it due to the work load in our shop. If it does not sell I anticipate we will complete the car going forward. Please review our pictures and consider viewing the car in Erie, PA or call me with any and all questions that will assist you in a decision to bid. I am striving to very accurately describe this car and the work it needs.
