For sale is this Red 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Woody Station Wagon that was rescued from a field located near the city of Bakersfield, California in 1967. The body parts were carefully disassembled and have been kept in dry indoor storage in 2 locations since then. We have both the clear title to the Red painted Woody and the Vin tag that corresponds to that title...as a bonus, also included in the sale is a second rolling chassis (with Green cowl and windshield) that was purchased later to possibly provide/donate parts such as the proper metal patch panels as needed, as well as some wood pieces that were missing from the Red body and seats ....we found the rare middle seat and will include it if desired....after using whatever might be needed for the Red 48, the Green one could likely then be sold for $2K-$3k to someone as a rolling chassis and cowl foundation for perhaps a custom/streetrod project...there is paper work that came with the Green roller that is available...the sale includes both, we will not separate them.
The four wood doors are definitely restorable and each has theoriginal windowmechanisms and door latch and lock hardware present...the hood is straight, the fenders are workable ...but there are so many 48 Chevys and body parts around that finding nice front and rear fenders is not a challenge...and might even save you money versus reparing these...in addition, there are good examples for wood patterns of the rear quarter wood sections, the roof cross members, roof rails and pillar posts that the rear doors hing upon for patterns ....In the Los Angeles area, we have spoken to the super nice, highly skilled and extremely knowledgeable folks there at... "The Wood 'N Carr, ...Doug and Suzy...as well as other Woody body specialists around the country who have patterns to duplicate the missing rear pillar posts, tailgate and liftgate.-they have the ability as well as fabricate the various other pieces that may be needed for repair or replacement.
Chevrolet Woodies are seemingly far more rare than surviving Fords when displayed at car shows and Woody events.....last year an original 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Woody sold for $85K here on Ebay....as an option, if someone wanted to make a very unique woody hot rod, this would be a great start.....RARELY DO YOU EVER SEE SOMEONE OFFERING A WOODY PROJECT WITH THIS MUCH WOOD IN RESTORABLE CONDITION FOR UNDER $15K....and ABSOLUTELY NEVER FOR UNDER $10K! DON'T FORGET, YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE A SECOND COMPLETE ROLLING CHASSIS WITH CORRECT COWL AS PART OF THIS DEAL
In the pictures, you will see some from the Red and a few from the Green....there are various reasons why one or the other may be the better one to build....but again, whichever one is not used, the sale of it could reduce the actual initial price of the one that is kept down to $7K or so once it sells.......Imagine a rare Woody project for $7K, with title? unheard of!...better act quickly, we are offering this package at a price where few Woody projects have ever been in the past 20 years.
