1976 Chevrolet Blazer K5 Cheyenne
If you're looking for an old body style K5 Blazer that's essentially brand new, you have found it!This Blazer has been built from the ground up through its frame-off, nut and bolt restoration, which was completed in September, 2017. It is currently on display at Summit Racing in McDonough, GA, and it will remain there until 3/19/19 when it is planned to return home to Whitesburg, GA.
We purchased this Blazer from the original owner's son in Birmingham, AL.We brought it back to Carrollton, GA with the intention of just driving it as an extra vehicle for our shop. After getting it home, though, we found it was in too good of shape and just too cool to use as a work truck, especially considering it only had 46,064 original miles. There were no major rust or body damage issues to deal with. It is also a Cheyenne, ordered with a 4-speed manual, 3:73 gears, rear locker and factory-ordered dual exhaust. So, we began our restoration!
We disassembled every piece of the body, and we put the tub on the rotisserie where every piece was soda-blasted down to bare metal (including frame and all suspension components). At that time, we completely rebuilt the SM465 4-speed transmission, NP205 transfer case, 12 bolt rear axle and Dana 44 front axle.Everything is new, including 3rd gear upgrade in transmission. The original engine was replaced with a Summit Racing 350 crate engine with a GM serpentine belt set-up and a larger cam ("CompCam" Brand). We replaced the original springs with a 4" Superlift soft ride suspension system. We restored the original factory wheels and center caps, and mounted 35/10.50 Super Swamper TSL Radial tires. All brake and fuel lines are new from Classic Tube, with stainless braided at the ends.We added a steering gearbox stabilizer to the front of the frame.
After completing the frame restoration, we got the body back from the paint shop (all colors are original - no changes made). All body moldings and seals are new from Brothers Trucks, and they fit well. We did the Chevrolet truck tailgate conversion, as well as added a soft top ('Softopper' brand). The original hardtop and tailgate are both in good condition, and both original pieces are included with this sale, as well. The interior was in excellent condition for its age, and we were able to re-install all the original seats, dash bezel and dashpad. The carpet had to be replaced, and the interior does have some minor blemishes, all of which are expected considering its age.We did one minor change to the sound system by purchasing a radio from Retrosounds, which has Bluetooth, and new Retrosounds speakers.Nothing had to be cut for these components to be installed.Interior still retains original factory spare tire holder, which has the original factory spare wheel/tire.
This Blazer is one of the nicest you'll ever find.It will run 70+ mph down the highway, driving and handling better than most of them did when they were brand new in the 70s.Many more details can be provided, as well as a full set of pictures documenting the entire restoration. All work was completed by Highway 5 Auto Center and Restoration Shop in Whitesburg, GA.
