Description:
1962 Chevrolet Corvette Two-Tops
We just discovered this 1962 Corvette in Los Angeles, California still in the same ownership since 1965. This is a very original car that appears to never had modifications performed of any type in its 57 year history. The old California pink slip shows California registration back to 1962. From talking to the family of the long term owner and thoroughly inspecting the car we can see that it was always maintained well and never saw any use in inclement weather. We have found the body to be all original factory panels, thus there has never been any collision damage of any type. We can see and were told, the car has had one overall exterior lacquer repaint in the original color of Ermine White completed approximately 30 years ago. This is the most major work that has ever been done on this car.Equipped nicely with the option of the high-performance RE 340 horsepower 327, T-10 4-speed transmission and a stamped CG non positraction 3:70 rear end properly dated. Other options are two tops (hardtop and folding soft top), Wonderbar radio and whitewall tires. This is a matching number drivetrain car. The original 3782870 block dated B82, February '62 corresponds perfectly with the cars early March '62 build date. Correct original 3783461 heads dated February '62 and the original 340hp aluminum intake cast 3795397 is also in place. The motor we are told was rebuilt in 1979 at which time the head surface was decked removing most of the stamp pad characters but enough can be seen and the undisturbed date coded parts give us security in representing this as the original motor. This car runs excellent, great performance and no issues. Transmission is the factory original T-10 with VIN stamping and original shifter. Rear end is original with CG 3:70 gears . Chassis is dirty, unrestored but zero rust or corrosion as you only see in cars from the Southwest. Steering and brakes are functional. Please note: Original owner had steering box rebuilt years ago. At that time the original VIN tag was removed from steering column and moved into door jamb like earlier Corvettes for fear of it ever getting away from the car. Easily re-spot welded to column if desired. It is the FACTORY ORIGINAL plate.
All systems function well on this car with the exception of inoperative windshield washers. Gauges including tachometer work as does the Wonderbar radio, courtesy lights and all other lighting. Hardtop we are told was seldom ever on car and very believable by its outstanding mint condition with perfect headliner, soft weatherstrips and clear uncrazed windows. Soft top was replaced just 4 years ago and is in excellent condition and operates properly. Trunk mat was original and broke into a thousand pieces, totally dried out. Spare tire is in there under the original board. We do not have jack or handle.
Interior is all the original upholstery except a set of seat covers replaced over 25 years ago. Original carpet is worn but decent. Dash pad is original but badly dried out and cracked. Gauge cluster, radio console and steering wheel are exceptionally nice. Door panels are near mint.
This is a great running and driving car just as it is and today is much appreciated for its mostly undisturbed originality but would also be a wonderful car to restore if that is your choice. Cars like this are becoming increasingly hard to find and while we continue to search for great unmolested early Corvettes like this, we are not seeing many turn up. We have priced this car to sell at a fair value and we stand ready to answer any and all questions you may have to assist you in your interest. We are holding a free and clear current title for the car. Car can be viewed in Erie, PA.
