Description:

1957 Chevrolet Corvette C1

This 1957 Chevrolet Corvette is a clean example powered by its original 283ci V8. The previous owner removed the factory 3-speed transmission in favor of the optional 4-speed unit.
Cosmetics are in good driver condition with an older Polo White repaint still looking shiny with silver coves, and the Venetian Red interior holding up well. The car is sold with the original 3-speed transmission and linkage, factory hardtop, Wonderbar radio, and a clean title.
The car was repainted to match the original Polo White (718) with Silver coves (704) by the previous owner and presents well overall. The fiberglass body panels look straight with no major dents or dings visible.
The chrome brightwork is in good condition and shows below normal wear for its age. The glass is free of cracks and any significant nicks, and all of the lights are working properly.
The 1957 Corvette came equipped with independent suspension up front with unequal length A-arms and coil springs, while the rear suspension was a live axle setup on semi-elliptical leaf springs. Anti-roll bars were found on both the front and rear, and all four corners had hydraulic shocks and 11'' drum brakes. The stock 15'' chrome hubcaps and knock offs are in good shape and wear 4-ply polyester wide whitewall tires.
An optional hardtop was available in 1957 and is included in the sale. The headliner is clean with no tears in the fabric. The soft top is in good condition and tucks behind the seats and underneath the integrated rear hatch.
The Venetian Red interior provides a nice contrast against the white body and is largely original. The steering wheel shows some wear and has a few scratches, but the remaining white painted surfaces on the dash and door panels looks good.
The seats have resisted any significant UV damage and have no tears or rips, though some wear and light staining is evident. The carpet on the transmission tunnel has faded over time, while the rest of the carpet has fared better with no discoloration. The chrome trim around the seats and on the door panels has some normal wear and light scratches, but looks bright overall with no dents.
The speedo and tach need to be rebuilt, and the other gauges are working properly. The Wonderbar radio was replaced with a more modern AM/FM unit, though it is included. The chrome instrument bezels, dash trim, and rear view mirror are in good condition, but the chrome piece surrounding the speedometer and extending down to the steering column shows significant pitting.
The original 283ci V8 (469A) features dual 4bbl Carter carbs and distributes power through a 4-speed manual gearbox. There were 2,045 Corvettes built with this engine in 1957, out of a total of 6,339 total built for that MY. The motor was advertised at producing 245 hp and 300 lb.ft of torque when new. The original 3-speed transmission and linkage are included and were reportedly rebuilt.
