Description:
1968 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible 140hp
This daily driver in very restorable condition will win in its class and be an attention grabber at local car shows. It is very straight and clean. The brightwork is straight, complete, and original. It has been owned by the same owner and garaged for the last 24 years. There are existing service records dating back to the mid-1970's. The car comes with the original owner's manual and Corvair repair guides. The factory radio is currently not installed but was recently refurbished. The dash is clean and completely unmolested. The body is very good, the older repaint is shiny with no signs of deterioration. The convertible top looks new and functions perfectly. There was minor rust on the rocker panels which was recently repaired with fiberglass fillers. It wasn't severe enough to warrant replacement of rocker panels. There is no rust in the quarters, fenders, engine compartment, trunk, or anywhere else EXCEPT one weak area immediately beneath where the driver would naturally rest his/her left heel. The repair panel is available through many sources for less than $75. The interior is clean with no rips, tears, or issues EXCEPT for the driver's seat which will need to have to be recovered. The restoration parts (original and reproduction) are available through California Corvair or Clark's Corvair Parts. Other than the two exceptions noted, the car is in very good condition and is a "clean daily driver". It starts and runs reliably, it shifts as it should, it accelerates well, and is a blast to drive. Of course it gets looks and offers to buy every time it is taken out for a cruise. The reserve is set very low so bid with confidence. This car needs to go to a person with a garage who has intentions of restoring it or keeping it original. There are very, very few of these cars remaining and it would be a shame for somebody to butcher it. It is NOT in concourse condition so please read the entire listing, look at the pics, and understand that it is a daily driver in great shape. It is a very restorable, all original car that is very rare. It's not perfect but it is complete and in very good condition. It could be shown in most local car shows right now but it is not ready for Mecum or a museum. The only other 1968 Corvair convertible that I've found doesn't have the four 1-barrel carb set-up, it's not the 140hp car, and they're asking $14K. The reserve for this more desireable model is way below that . . .On Jan-10-19 at 14:05:22 PST, seller added the following information:
Just had the chance to view the other Corvairs and there is one thing that always stands out . . . This is most likely the ONLY 1968 listed because 1968 and 1969 are hands-down the rarest Corvairs. So, why not get the best color combination and one of the rarest years? Please do a little research and you'll see that this carb set-up, the 140hp engine, and the powerglide transmission are are almost impossible to find in 1968. Especially a convertible. I was going to raise the reserve but I didn't. I really need to sell it because I don't have enough space to keep it. My loss, your gain.
