Description:

1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport

Up for auction is my 1964 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport. I am a senior aged private owner and have personally owned this car for over 17 years. The car is largely original as you can see from the pictures. It has had the exhaust system replaced recently along with various other mechanical parts throughout the years to keep it road worthy. Virtually all items work as they should, brakes, steering, lights, horn etc. at the time of the auction but I make NO guarantees of any sort. It is a 54 year old car and is being sold as is. It is equipped with power steering. The engine, a 283, starts easily, and operates smoothly as does the power glide transmission but they have never been rebuilt, just serviced as necessary. Stamped on the engine block pad is F I 0 2 7 G T . It's my understanding Chevrolet never used VIN stamping on 283 engines, only 327 or larger engines. Because this is a California built car, it has an early PVC system. As such the air cleaner snorkel is positioned on the opposite side you'd normally expect it to be because of the PVC hose in back of it. There is a You Tube video of the car starting and driving. Copy and paste the link below. Be patient and let it load, it's in high definition:

Or type in- 1964 Black ImpalaSS Demo into the You Tube search bar.
As you can see from that video the car operates very well. It drives straight down the road very quietly and does not pull to either side during acceleration, cruise or braking. A very solid, performing car. The radial tires have very few few miles on them (less than 1,000), but they are several years old and in my opinion should be replaced because of age. The radial spare tire has never been used. There is the original floor jack and an owners manual.
This car was built at the Chevrolet South Gate, California factory and is a black license plate car. I believe I still have one of the original black California plates that came with the car. Looking at the VIN tag, you'll note the U in the center of the numbers. That indicates a South Gate built car. Looking at the cowl tag you'll see STYLE 64-1447. That decodes as 64 = 1964 model year, 1447 = Super Sport. The 12C in the upper left corner of the cowl tag above the STYLE is the build information, C= 3rd week and 12 = December, 1963. The body was the 4,289th one produced for the model year. TRIM 815 notes a black interior color. The paint code is DD which for South Gate cars decodes as a Satin Silver upper and lower paint. In the pictures you can see many places where the factory silver paint is still present. It's my understanding that the second Southern Californian owner of the car had it painted black by Earl Scheib in the 1980's. It still wears that same black Earl Scheib paint with the factory Satin Silver paint still under the black. The paint looks MUCH Better in pictures than in person. It's OK paint for a driver quality car, but it is not even close to show quality paint.
The interior is complete but the headliner, carpet, front seat covers, and carpet on the lower portion of the door panels all need replacing. They are either faded, seams split or worn out after 54 years. The factory padded dash is virtually perfect, very nice as is the back seat. The lower door panels had speakers cut into them long before I bought the car, but the speakers are gone. It has an original AM radio but it does not work. The antenna for it is missing and I've never replaced it. As you can see, all the interior SS trim is present and in good condition. If you need more interior pictures let me know and I'll supply them. The rocker/sill panels and floor pans still have their factory finishes on them and are in excellent, essentially rust free condition. The glass codes are all correct for a Dec build but the windshield has a nasty scratch from the right side wiper blade.
As befitting a California car, all the floor pans above and below are rock solid. The only significant rust on the car is behind both the front wheels about the size of a quarter where sand blocked the drain holes. I have pictures of it but it doesn't show up very well. To my knowledge, the car still has all its factory sheet metal. The bottom trunk floor pan has surface rust and some pin hole size rust holes from typical Impala condensation underneath the trunk mat. The trunk floor pan should be replaced but it is perfectly serviceable as is. What looks like surface rust in places under the car in the pictures is really red clay dust. It's very nice and solid underneath.
I own 2 other 1964 Impala Super Sports as well as a '62 SS and I'm starting to sell them off. I'm getting older and it's time to start letting them go. I have 100% positive eBay feedback from more than 18 years here and am very proud of that. I have no desire or need to misrepresent this car. It is an honest car with great "bones" but it needs attention as it is old. It's been used, but not abused! It is not a show car but it will serve well as a "driveable dream" car or would be an ideal foundation for a restoration. I have well over 250 other pictures if you don't see something you would like to see. Better yet, come and inspect the car yourself in person, I have a lift!
This is a no reserve auction, the high bidder will own the car. The car is to be sold "as is." There will not be any returns. The buyer is responsible for picking up or shipping the vehicle. I will assist the buyer to make the transaction as smooth and carefree as possible. I have the clear, clean title in hand. Winning the auction doesn't mean the winner can come and look at the car and then decide if they want to buy it. Bid to own this car. Please ask questions before bidding, but it would be best if you arrange to come and inspect it in person before hand. I want you to know exactly what you will be buying.
Bank wire transfer payment is safest and best for all concerned or cash are the only acceptable payment methods. For some reason the listing shows credit cards but I have no way of accepting them. Bank wire transfer or cash are the only way for full payment please. A $500 deposit (PayPal is acceptable/best for the deposit only) is required within 48 hours of the auction close and full payment is due within 7 days of the auction close.
Good Luck!! The car is far from perfect but someone is going to get a very nice, honest car!
