1949 Chevrolet Other
This is a 1949 Chevy with only 39,900 original miles on it that I purchased in the spring of 2015. It was fresh from a basement garage in West Virginia. I believe I am only the second registered owner of this vehicle, I have a clear title/registration in my name for the vehicle and it is currently registered in N.Y. where I live. This is truly a time capsule. After purchasing the car I replaced the fuel tank with a brand new unit, as well as the fuel lines and fuel pump. Also replaced all the brake lines, and I had the original master brake cylinder rebuilt by Apple Hydraulics here on Long Island. Also replaced the emergency brake cables which work very nicely. Also purchased 4 brand new BF Goodrich wide white wall tires, and rear shocks. I gently cleaned the exterior of the car as I wanted to keep it as original as possible. Parts of the exterior of the car appear to have been repainted at some point in it's life but I'm sure it was a long time ago. It has a cool aged finish. I didn't touch the interior and as you can see in the photos it looks terrific, I just hit it with the vacuum. The front seat shows a little wear in places but very presentable considering that they have never been replaced. The Dash is mint. This car is extremely solid with a very little rust. The only rust through on the entire car is a hole about the size of a quarter in the rear floor pan on the passenger side otherwise it is rock solid. I've added some photos of the undercarriage to show this. The mileage is documented by looking at the many dated lubrication stickers in the drivers door jamb. Check out the photo of those. The motor runs real nice with no issues. When I got the car it had no clutch pedal which I easily freed up but soon realized I needed a throw out bearing. I took it to our local transmission shop and I had the bearing replaced and also had the flywheel resurfaced. Shifts like butter. You will notice the horn ring is broken which I understand is rather common. I was able to find an original (in the original box) horn ring I just have not had the time to install it so it will go with the car. You really have to see the car to really appreciate it. The original rubber around the windows looks brand new and the glass is crystal clear. I left the original West Virginia State Police inspection sticker in the windshield which is dated 1973 and looks like it was just put on. I also have the original West Virginia License plate that was on the car in 1973. The car has a couple of cool features like a rear window wiper which looks factory but was probably installed by the dealer. It also has a heater under the front passenger seat. There was a wallet in the glove box which contained most it not all the past registrations for the car dating back to the early fifties. There are a couple of small dents and dings as you would expect but nothing major. The worst of which is above the driver's door on the side of the roof but even that I think it could be easily popped out. I know I am forgetting a bunch of stuff, call or email questions I will try to answer promptly. I really love this car I just have too many cars and to little time. Thanks for looking!Doug
