While it may not do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, you will think it can when you're behind the wheel. While it doesn't have hyper-drive, the stump-puller under the hood will push you back in your seat so fast you might see starlines. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS Restomod, previously owned by Harrison Ford's (Han Solo's) personal pilot...no, not Chewbacca, Skip.
Before it became the sinister-looking machine it is now, this particular example was built at GM's Van Nuys, California assembly plant during the fifth week of January 1967. It left the line as a Camaro SS painted Sierra Fawn (code S) with a black interior with bucket front seats (code 765) and had two options - tinted glass and a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. This car has spent most, if not all of its previous years in dry southern California.
Dressed in all black now paint and trim, including new, deeply tinted windows, the paint is topped off with a clearcoat layer that makes the paint pop appropriately. The exterior is clean and straight and has a deep front air dam and a rear lip spoiler as part of the RS trim package. Car has new light fixtures all around plus a new fuel tank. Car comes with leftover parts and accessories - tires, exhaust, trim, original SS parts, etc. Please note that the car's windshield wipers are inoperable; the wiper motor is not currently installed, it never rains in southern California!
Underneath, the car has new springs, Fox shock absorbers and is braced by a mostly Hotchkis suspension with some Caltracs and Moroso parts as well. There are new sway bars, dampeners and bushings. The car has been completely remastered in the vein of a classic Detroit Speed set-up. This car stops as well as it goes, with a new Willoway four-wheel disc brakes and new, rigid brake lines. The car's stance is Goldilocks, which, just like the fairy tale, is not too low or too high, but just right. Car rolls on Falken radials in front, size 225/50R16 and Mickey Thompson tires in back, size 255/50R16. Each tire surrounds a 16″ Ralleye wheels finished in charcoal gray.
Under the hood is a Corvette LS-3 376 CID V-8 engine with fewer than 1,100 miles on it. This LS3 has been de-tuned to 425 horsepower for street use. If you're feeling naughty, simply connect it to a dyno computer and tune it back to full power, 525 horsepower, for track use! Other upgraded parts include a new Summit single-fan radiator, Spectre air filter and intake plenum, Moroso ignition kit and new exhaust and headers. Backing up this motor is an overhauled GM 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission with a new Perfect Launch rear end. Previous owner reports the transmission and differential are matched to absorb the engine's power and torque. Driver convenience features include power steering and power brakes.
Inside, the car features a new headliner, new carpet, center console, door liners and seats have been recovered. The car has new weatherstripping. Some stock items have been cleaned up - seat belts, door handles, sideview and rearview mirrors - to retain the classic look. The car has a new Phantom gauge package and a three-spoke Grant GT steering wheel mounted on a tilt column. In addition, the car has a Hurst shifter and a Jensen stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and hooked up to four Kicker speakers. The car has a kill switch for security.
The 1967 Camaro shared the subframe/semi-unibody design with the 1968 Chevy II Nova. Almost 80 factory and 40 dealer options, including three main packages, were available: the RS, the SS and the Z/28.
The RS was an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, RS badging, and exterior bright trim. It was available on any Camaro model.
The SS included a 350 CID V8 engine and the L35 and L78 396 CID big-block V-8s were also available. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping, and SS badging on the grille, front fenders, gas cap, and horn button. It was possible to order both the SS and RS options, creating a SS/RS. In 1967, a Camaro SS/RS convertible with a 396 engine paced the Indianapolis 500.
Documentation includes folders for - receipts, dyno results, warranties, instructions and more. Competition to this Camaro in 1967 included the rest of the Ponycar class - Dodge's Challenger, Ford's Mustang, Mercury's Cougar, Plymouth's Barracuda and Pontiac's Firebird.
Photographs do not do this car justice; it looks incredible up close, so please visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars as soon as possible to check out this Camaro and take it home as your own Millennium Falcon. It might persuade you to become a Corellian smuggler, too!
