Sometimes in my travels I stumble across a vehicle with such a cool history and owner, I thank God for having such a cool job! This is one of those vehicles. A friend told me about this car that was in a driveway of a gated community in North Florida with a FOR SALE sign in the window inside the garage. He stopped and took a picture of the sign to send me, and said "you should call on this, it looks REALLY nice". After making the trip up, I have to say that I agree with him 100%!!! The previous owner bought the car from the son of the original owner, and the tale of the cars history is as follows: 1st owner purchased the car brand new in Albuquerque, NM back in 1969. There is an old photo of the car taken right after the purchase that was included with the paperwork, and on the back it says - TAKEN AT ALB., NM 1969 EL CAMINO SUPER SPORT 396 ENGINE 325 HORSEPOWER. The 1st owner kept and drove the car from time to time for many years, and in the late 80's moved to Arkansas where the car was put into garage storage. In 1996, the decision was made to have the El Camino completely refreshed and made to be like new again, so the car was taken to a restoration shop in Arkansas (all info on the receipts) and a detailed plan was made to have a complete "body-on-frame" refresh done to anything that needed it on the car. Detailed restoration receipts from the shop and hand-written logs from the original owner show that after almost two years, and just over $18,800 invested, the car was given back to its original owner in like-new condition again with just 49,391.3 miles on the odometer. He proceeded to drive the car until about 56,000, and when he passed away, it was willed to his son, who drove it until 59,538.9 miles when family obligations caused him to offer it for sale. The final owner took possession of the car in 2011 to satisfy a life-long dream of owning this exact color combo and powertrain car he had always wanted back in the day. He kept it and drove it sparingly to local car shows and cruise nights, spending an addition $2,800 in documented service and maintenance before selling us the car with 60,985 miles showing on the odometer. After servicing and inspecting the car, and each of us taking a turn driving it to make sure it was quirk and issue free, the car currently shows 61,065 on the odometer. So that's the story we got, and from meeting the prior owner and talking with him for almost 3 hours, then looking through the paperwork, receipts, and photo in the original owners folder of info, I tend to believe it is the truth. Currently, the car is in remarkable condition, and is ready to take to a car show or event right now. The car wears its factory correct FATHOM GREEN paint wonderfully, and you would never believe that the finish was sprayed in 1998 from looking at the car. Yes, it shows a few typical minor blemishes from normal driving like a stone chip, small scuff, and things, but when you look over the 150 large photos below from every angle, you will see that it still presents as though it was 1970 and you were looking at the Chevy Dealers used car inventory! The body is wonderfully straight, and shows NO sign of rust, rot, or bondo patches and things. Just real GM steel from the front to the back. Gaps and panel fit are great all the way around, and the doors do NOT sag or droop. Chrome bumpers are in wonderful condition, and show beautifully front and rear. Grill, tail lamp surrounds, wheel-well trim, top and window trim, tail gate trim, bed rail trim, and all the other brightwork on the car is essentially original, and shows wonderfully, but not 100% perfect. I have added detailed photos of all of it for you to see, and having the original bits is much better than the cheap imported junk they sell today to replace it. Vinyl top is in amazing condition, and you can press against it all over without any sign of brittleness or issues. Glass is in fantastic condition all the way around, and is original to the car. All of the rubber seals and weather stripping is from 1998, but thanks to careful climate-controlled garage storage it is all soft, pliable, and in great shape. The bed looks AMAZING! It doesn't really even show a mark on it, and has not been used for anything by any of the last two owners. Tail gate opens to reveal PERFECT inners and hinge points, with NO issues! Even the rubber flap looks like new! The car rides on original El Camino Sport wheels with SS caps and trim rings, and they are in very good condition, with only a few marks and signs of use to show for 48 years on the road. Tires are recent BFGOODRICH T/A radials with raised white letters size P215/70R14 and about 75% of the useable tread life remaining. They were purchased by the 3rd owner in 2011 just after he bought it to replace outdated tires that were on it. Headlamps work. Hi beams work. Turn signals work. Parking lights work. Brake lights work. Reverse lights work. Overall, the outside of the car presents as a show-ready car right now, and if you took the time to polish and detail it when you get it home, it will present even better. It looks like it was just restored a few months ago, and if you look at all the photos below, I am sure you'll agree. Inside, an original interior wasn't touched too much during the refresh, but still shows wonderfully throughout. Black Strato-bucket seats were recovered in 1996 and are in good condition, with just light amounts of wear from normal use. Driver seat piping is worn in four spots on the left edge and left front corner of the seat base as shown in the photos. The rest of the driver seat shows only typical aging but no cracks or seam splits. Headrest looks great, and works as it should. Seat back is in very good condition, as is the chrome release mechanism for tilting it forward. Passenger seat shows very light wear on the outboard upper piping, and first row seam, but other than that looks amazing as you can see in the photos. Passenger headrest looks great and works perfectly. Passenger seat back looks great, with just a few tiny marks, and the chrome release shows and works wonderfully. Seat belts on each side look and work great. Headliner shows like new, as do the sun visors. Even the dome light works as it should. SS trim door panels are in very good condition, with only the lightest signs of use as shown in the large photos below, and no damage or disrepair. Window rollers, vent rollers, door pulls, armrests, and lock buttons are all in very good condition and function as they should. Fisher body trim plates are in great condition, with logos intact. Wrapped steering wheel shows great, and works perfectly. Dash is in excellent condition, and shows no cracks or damage. Gauge surround panel is original, as are the dash gauges. Speedometer/odometer works as it should, and is off GPS speed by just 1 mph. Fuel gauge is erratic, and works about 40% of the time. The rest of the time it is pegged to the right. All dummy lights come on at start up as they should. Inside turn signal indicator lights and hi beam indicator work like they should. Dash lights work. Wiper system works as it should. In 1998, an aftermarket gauge ti-pack was installed under the dash to better monitor oil pressure, engine temp, and battery amperage. They are working fine, and can be easily removed if you don't like them. Factory center console is in great condition, and shows wonderfully. Shifter works exactly as it should. Factory controls for the heat and air conditioning work as they should, and the A/C system was upgraded to R134A in 2011 by the last owner. Factory AM radio is intact, but currently inoperable. Glove box opens and locks and it should, and has a clean liner. Overall, the interior is in very good condition, and shows as original as you would expect a 3-owner car to appear. Opening the hood reveals the 396CI /325HP V8 that powers this machine. The engine bay itself is clean and neat and stock appearing, as the multiple photographs will show. Scroll to the bottom for all the numbers on everything. Maintenance items such as lines and hoses were all recently replaced to ensure an issue-free introduction to the new owner. The car starts up with a turn of the key and two pumps of the gas. It idles cleanly, and kicks down when it's supposed to. Receipts show an extensive array of all-new internal parts were sourced for a stock rebuild on the motor back in 1998. It has been driven only about 11,000 miles since then, so it still shows new as well. It does not run hot, at least not when I was stuck in beach traffic for 40 minutes in 100 degree July Florida sun a few weeks back. A/C blows very cold, and the first setting is about all you need to keep everyone comfy. The TH400 transmission shifts beautifully, and was rebuilt to stock specifications back in 1998. It sends the power back to the 12 Bolt rear end with 3.31 gearing. Power disc/drum brakes work smoothly to stop the car, and power steering is light and easy without any excessive slop. Dual exhaust is from 1998 as well, and although it does show light oxidation, it is solid, and fully functional too. Sounds great coming out the dual chrome exhaust tips out back. Seeing and driving it will only help to sell it. Same for a private inspection. PLEASE arrange before you bid or buy. Any oxidation you see in the chassis photos below is just that... oxidation. If you hit it with a nylon brush it turns to dust and drifts away in the wind. We do NOT try to over-detail and photo-shop our cars, so what you see is real. NO black spray paint or anything else to hide things. Other than having a bunch of new maintenance items installed for the steering, brakes, and body mounts during the refurbishing process and subsequent years after, the chassis was not touched during the two-year restoration, so it shows 61,000 miles of reality. We did a safety check and inspection on the car, fixed or replaced anything we felt needed addressed, and have driven it for over 75 miles in the process. We feel confident risking our eBay reputation by offering it up for worldwide sale, and know that the new owner will be thrilled. READ THE AD COMPLETELY. LOOK AT ALL OF THE EXTRA LARGE PHOTOS PROVIDED. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET - NO DISAPPOINTMENTS. I took photos of it from every angle I could, and I encourage you to ask questions, come see it, or arrange for an inspection PRIOR TO BUYING IT. I don't have anything to hide, and have tried to cover every part of the vehicle as best I could. It has a clean and clear title, and is ready for a new owner. The vehicle is located in our Fort Myers, FL warehouse, and is just 20 minutes away from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) if you want to fly in and see it. I welcome outside inspection services BEFORE YOU BUY OR BID. Mileage is listed on Florida title as EXEMPT due to model year. ***IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH WORLDWIDE VEHICLE SHIPPING- CALL ME! ***IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH QUICK AND EASY FINANCING- CALL ME! ***IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE IN EXPORTING IT OVERSEAS-CALL ME! |
